You also might check out the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport. Classes are great with world renowned photographers and master classes (need a portfolio for the master classes).

Our colleague’s inquiry abut Maine reminded me of the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport. They have in person and on line courses in Photography and Film as well as other programs. I took a master class from Mary Ellen Mark years ago. She was a great but tough instructor. I think that UHH readers would benefit from the variety of programs offered there even if a course cannot be taken in person. If you have a chance to go the campus and surroundings are beautiful.

If you do go to Rockland i suggest going by the Apprentice Shop. This is a longtime wooden boat building shop teaching boat builders through the apprentice method. They also refurbish old wooden boats and do commission work as well. Last time we went they were able to give us a quick tour through the shop. I believe they will let you take photos and there would be some interesting possibilities. Check with them. I am not affiliated with them it’s just a really cool place to check out on the harbor.

Don't lose the chance of going to the Bethel area in Maine... specially during Autumn. Amazing area with plenty of lakes and rivers. It isn't that far and is a must.

Cheers and enjoy.

Sorry, September in Maine? Boring. You go to the north from the airport it may snow. Bring warm clothing.

Enjoy

September is actually one of the best times to visit. Too early for real fall color, but warn days, cool nights, and fewer (or at least more mature) crowds. Few places have air conditioning, and what there is is often not sized to deal with 80 and 90 degree weather. Most all seasonal businesses will stay open until Columbus Day, though often with reduced hours.

Cadillac Mountain offers photographers the first place in the US that the sun rises. This is part of Acadia National Park. When your there check out Schoodic Peninsula which is 5% of Acadia National Park. My wife and I did it last fall and loved it.

Two amateur photographers and our wives are headed to Maine in September. It's a coastline trip because we're not hikers or woodlands people. Land in Portland and drive North, that's the plan. Now we have to fill in the gaps of what to do. My previous request about such a trip was bountiful from the Hogs. Please bless me with your personal ideas about Maine.

You already have lots of places recommended for Main. But, from bar harbor, if you have a couple of the days to spare, Nova Scotia is a must add on. The west coast at Bay of Fundy has highest tides in the world and East side the lowest. You could drive or take the ferry.

Peggy's cove on the east coast is a famous spot. I love the rocky ready coast. Lots of light houses there also. I spent a week in NS and loved it was much or more than Main. Well worth the extra time of you have it.

If you are near Boothbay Harbor try the Eastern Main Botanical gardens. For Lobster find the fisherman cooperatives places. Enjoy!!
