A Streetcar Named Desire SFCA
That's a cable car not a street car.

I can't decide. Is that a PCC trolley in the background?
Thank you for sharing.
Not if you are an old time San Franciscan (not living on/in the street). For them there is a big difference.
Yes funiculars are clever and enjoyable. They make a lot of sense in certain circumstances.

"Street car", according to several sources, was a term to differentiate "cars" that were used on the streets, rather than railroads.
Side note, had the pleasure of motoring the sister streetcar (aka "Trams") to the one used in the movie, "Never on Sunday".
Beautiful old trolley, well captured and titled, hdf.

That is a "Cable Car" and it is pulled along by a cable under the street.
I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area from June 1963 until Sept. 2019, when I moved to New Mexico, and rode the "Cable Cars" many, many times.
Stella! Stop the quibbling.
Nice one. Maybe some people never heard of the play, "A Streetcar Named Desire."
Streetcar named Desire referred to Desire St. in New Orleans.
I recall a book titled "Frenchmen, Desire, Goodchildren-and other streets in New Orleans"
I was born and raised in N.O.
One of the original street cars from the "Desire" St line was on display at the old New Orleans Mint. It is no longer on display in New Orleans, but was traded to San Fransisco for one of their old cable cars. The Desire car can be ridden in SF on the Warf Line. It is still green, as the old New Orleans, St Charles Line cars are painted. The Desire Line ran into the French Quarter, on Royal St. to Canal St. where all the many lines in New Orleans ended, or began. If traveling to New Orleans, be sure to ride the red cars, on the new lines. One new line runs through the French Quarter, to Canal St, then up Canal to City Park. The newest line is the Superdome, to Canal St. down Rampart St. and ends at Elegian Fields Ave, and returns to Canal St. I lived in New Orleans area, until 2017, and moved to New Hampshire.
