Sarlat-la-Canéda, France
In 1999, I traveled to Switzerland and France with the choir of First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Texas. We began in Zürich, Switzerland, traveled down the eastern edge of France to the sea and then up the Loire Valley to Paris. It was a glorious tour, and we sang a number of concerts at stops along the way.
One of the stops was the picturesque town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, which is the subject of this set. Sarlat-la-Canéda, commonly known as Sarlat, is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. It developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin. The medieval Sarlat Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sacerdos. This abbey appears in records as early as 1081 and was one of the few in the region that was not raided by the Vikings. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. The center of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings and is largely car-free.
Now, to the pictures.

Interesting information enhances the picturesque architecture of Sariat-la-Caneda. Thank you for sharing this fine set, David.
Longshadow, thanks so much for the thumbs up!
Annie, Thanks for the 5 thumbs! I'm pleased you found the set interesting, and you're welcome--I enjoy sharing. I thought perhaps Sarlat might be enough off the beaten path that a lot of folks had not been there.
You still do a good tour, David!

Thanks, Mike! Sarlat is not a place a lot of people visit.
Fabulous set, David. Thanks for sharing the history also.

Thank you, Vince! I'm glad you liked it.
Beautiful images David - well done!
Thanks for the great tour. We have stayed in Sarlat twice and both times at La Madeleine. The first time, there was an open parking space in front so we parked and found that they had rooms (and, as a bonus, an elevator). The second time we deliberately sought it out and rooms were available. We’ve done several driving trips in Europe and GB without reservations as well as in NZ. We would never have discovered Sarlat on a planned trip (and the same for other places like Ronda in Spain).
