I am about to replace my Late-2012 Mini Mac with either a new Mini or a 27 inch iMac. Is anyone using this latest combination and what are your experiences?

I just replaced my mid-2011 27" iMac with the new 24" M1 iMac. The difference in speed is jaw-dropping. Opening Lightroom it used to take a few minutes for everything to load up and be ready for use. Now, with the M1 chip and LR that is optimized for the M1 chip, LR opens in literally seconds. Exporting a JPG from LR - zip.... done!

Have not yet done any processor-intense tasks like rendering 4k video, but for every day tasks the difference is night and day! When my old iMac was asleep it would take a few minutes after I'd wake it up before I could use it. Now, when I wake up the M1 iMac - Ping! It's ready! I have also user Luminar 4 (not AI) and everything seems much snappier than before.

The response you received mentioned Lightroom and the M1 chip.
Noting the title of your post, a google search indicates that Luminar AI update 3 made Luminar AI compatible with the M1 chip.

I considered going with the M1, but eventually decided on a 2020 Imac, plenty of ram (added after purchase to save a few bucks), an ssd drive, and the newest cpu. From my research, it appears the M1 is really fast and will eventually totally replace the intel systems. However, I was unsure of the integrated graphics component and preferred the discrete Radeon 5500XT. I also wanted the size of a 27" machine and didn't want to wait a few months or a year for the M1 production to catch up. Very pleased with performance with LR, PS, Topaz, and Luminar.

I went with M1 Mac Mini 16GB and 1TB. It truly is amazing. Dogs like Topaz Sharpen AI , Luminar 4 run amazingly fast now so much so I can change my workflow to go from On1 to Topaz DeNoise (does more that DeNoise), Topaz Sharpen AI and back so fast. Looks in Topaz Studio are blazing fast (for some reason Topaz Studio 2 are slower but topaz support says the native app will be out soon. I did a 20 image panoramic (26MB raw images ) in Affinity Photo in less than a minute.

Good for you! It sounds wonderful. For me, I am waiting for Apple to release a larger (27+" iMac) before making the leap...Cheers!

I recently took delivery of the 24" (really 23.5") M1 iMac to replace my 27" 2011 iMac. While having the real estate of the 27" was nice, I find I'm not hindered in any way (so far) with the slightly smaller screen. What I really like, however, is the fact that I can now finally close my roll top desk, which was impossible with the 27" sitting there. (My wife inherited the 27")

Good to know. For those seeking information on compatibility, go to:

https://isapplesiliconready.com/

Currently, about 2/3 of major titles are native to M1. About 6% won’t run at all. The rest run in Intel mode via the Rosetta 2 emulator.
