Good point. I knew that but really didn't think about it! Thanks for the correction. Anyway I usually can tell it's a spoof by inspecting the full header.

ALWAYS!
And I even forward them to "abuse" at the originating IP address's host, as well as the abuse department for the destination scam domain (links in the body).

I have managed to get a few domains deleted.

Install Nomorobo. It does a pretty good job. Optimum, my ISP, offers it free on their website.

NoMoRobo only works on VOIP, not old-fashioned copper wire.

That's EXACTLY what they are hoping to get. Especially for a "refund" of the "charge".....

I keep getting emails at one address that my Norton has expirééd. Emails are predominantly from a server in Romania, but some other countries as well, including the US. They purposely spell with funny letters so your spam filter will not catch it.

I'm getting the same thing from "Norton", not sure where it's coming from, but I'm checking my credit card statements daily.

Bill,
Perhaps my understanding lacks knowledge about NOMOROBO, but my land lines are connected via telephone jacks in the wall. Is that still VOIP?

It appears that they want you to call to "reverse the charge" on your card,
any card. Just give them a card and they'll have the charge removed..........
They just want the card numbers, expiration, and CSV code.
Unfortunately people will call and provide the information to get the "credit" for the "wrong" charge.

I check my card status every day or three, or four.

I have an answering machine and I never answer the phone unless they leave a message and number.
If it's somebody I recognize I will call them back.

I have both my cell phone and home phone landline on NoMoRobo
A lot of scam calls never get here.

I hover my pointer arrow over questionable email addresses in my inbox and immediately mark the as spam or phishing if it is strange or unknown. AS for telephone calls that tell me my credit card account has been hacked, I always ask the caller to give me the credit card number and they hang up on me. For Amazon I simply tell them I do not have an Amazon account.

I like the ones that tell me they are from the IRS and they are sending a sheriff or FBI to arrest me for not paying taxes. I tell them I'll meet them at my front door.

Here's the latest scam I got by email. It ostensibly was from a guy I knew in the Army and maintain some contact
with. The sending address was his but it was not a link in blue type. It was followed by a gmail address that was a link but I did not recognize.

The sender first sent a short email asking if I was on line as he could not currently be reached by phone. So I should not call to ask!

Here's the text of the scam:
"Sorry for the inconvenience. I need to get a Google play gift card for my nephew, it's his birthday but I can't do this now because I'm seriously ill and my doctor said I should stay indoors for some reason. I have tried to purchase it online but unfortunately have no luck with that, can you get it from any Grocery store around you or Best Buy or online? I'll reimburse you as soon as possible.
Let me know if you can handle this.”

I advised my friend, Dave, and he got back to me saying it was a hack.
Here's the latest scam I got by email. It ostensib... (show quote)

Yes, there's lots of weirdness online. I keep getting Facebook requests from a friend, but he's not sending them.

I constantly get emails saying that my order from Amazon has been shipped or thanking me for my order. I don't even open it. I put it in a scam folder just long enough to check my bank account and credit card on line to make sure nothing has been charged to them and when I see it hasn't, I delete it. I don't open any emails if there is the slightest chance it may not be real.

I had an email in my Scam folder telling me that Avira would be charging my credit card $315 for continued service. Looking at the extended email address, it was "gottiebrobert..." I suppose the next step would be for the "chump" to call or email them and give them the CC number that they shouldn't charge.

Yes I too have been getting these emails, also getting phone calls all day long wanting me to sit at my computer so they can correct all the scams in my computer. This has caused me to switch my answering machine to "please leave a message" from 9AM to 9PM daily.

I’m sitting here reading these emails. There’s no question that it is a real and growing problem.

On checking my BOA card today to see if the "Norton" charge was there, I discovered a nearly $1000 credit. Turns out that on my payment last month I accidently overpaid by $1000, apparently because of a typo on my part. I've got to be more careful. Good thing: No Norton charge.

Lately, my caller ID often says "SPAM."
