Walk-a-Round Student work

From my previous post; I took my high school classes on a "field trip" around the school (outside). Due to distance learning this year, all my photography classes used their smartphones. They usually use the school supplied Point & Shoot (Canon) cameras. The assignment was to simply take photos of things you find interesting, I told them photographers often go to exotic places to get amazing images, but the true test of an artist is to get interesting images right in your own backyard (or school). I teach photography in the Art dept. of a public high school.
I'll post what I see as the most interesting images, as students are still submitting work I'll post more in the next few days.
Your comments are welcomed and encouraged, we'll be reviewing them in class next week.
Thanks in advance for your input

Your kids did very well on your assignment - I guess there are some kids around that out to kill each other. Good lesson and they did very well - Congrats on being a great teacher

What a great exercise! I keep coming back to #2. The last one is a close second. It would be very interesting to be able to sit in on your class and here what motivated each student to take the shot they took. Just curious to know do the kids submit their images anonymously? If they do, it would be a fun test for you to guess which student took what image. I think each image above has a different personality, obviously a different view of the world around them. I am looking forward to seeing more images!

Interesting images. Your assignment brought back memories of one of my classes at RIT taught by Joe Benenate. He gave out the assignment en masse because we had a split quarter, then a full quarter and I'm guessing he wanted to give everyone a slight chance of not having snow in every photo. He had a box of numbered slide mounts and you made your pick. The number corresponded to an area on campus (academic side). I can't remember the exact number of images you were to make from "your" spot (5-10 maybe) and you could move no more than 3 feet from your designated area. Kind of a fun assignment when you saw everyone's "spot" get projected on the screen. Some of his other assignments were happy/sad, colors that sell, 50-50, and 25-75. There were a few more but after 45+ years I'm lucky to remember these. Great guy. Last time I saw him was in Boston for a meeting (and a Red Sox game.. oh, there's a story there). Sadly he passed in '94.

What a great idea. I once was part of a class for high school students who did the same thing. We were around water and I was shocked to see them taking pictures underwater. They knew which end of their iPhones they could put in the water. Loved their creativity.
