I have found over the years that when they are rating anything I was very familiar with, I usually disagree with their choices.

I have the same opinion with you that I don’t agree with their ratings of many products. I also take in consideration of our own personal preferences, l’m not a subscriber of the magazine anymore.

Hey hoggers, all I was trying to do is give you info that I have. Whether you agree or disagree with their ratings is okay with me. I have tried some things they rated fairly high and was disappointed, but i also tried others and was pleased. So guys and gals don’t shoot the messenger since the ratings I posted were just to respond to an earlier query.
Happy shooting no matter what you use (I prefer my Canon RP and G15 over the iPhone)

Consumer Reports consistently that Behr, the Home Depot paint is one of the best. I do a lot of painting and know others who paint also. None of us would ever use it a second time.

Back in the film days (1970 or so) CR rated several definitely lesser SLRs ahead of the Nikkormat because the Nikkormat came with “only” an f/2.0 lens and not the expected f/1.4 lens. Their “review staff” was not aware that you could buy it with any lens you wanted (or none at all). From that day on I have ignored CR’s quite amateurish ratings. They were at that time professional “raters” and not by any means experts in any field. Apparently they have not changed.

Not to denigrate CR, but several computer magazine come to different conclusions, putting the top super-expensive Samsung 20 series as best in class, slightly edging out the iPhone.

If you like night photography, or very low light stuff, the Pixel was best.

I'm currently using a Samsung S10 and am researching options, and doing my very best to keep an open mind. In general, I prefer the Android system to Apples "walled garden" approach but that wouldn't be a deal breaker.

I use a 10+ but have been eyeballing a Pixel 5...anyone own one?

Their top rated was Apple iPhone 12Pro Max @ 86, followed by two Samsung @ 85 - Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G and Galaxy S21 Ultra G. All three of these were over $1000. The highest rated “Best Buy” was the the OnePlus 8 Pro @ 84 for $700 followed closely by the OnePlus 8 @ 83 for $500 and the OnePlus Nord N10 5G @81 for $300. The Best Buy in the Apple line was the iPhone XR @80 for $500.
I have not used any of these since I am still using an iPhone 7.

Thanks! I'm using, actually learning to use, a Samsung Galaxy S9 with Lightroom. It is great fun.

Had to respond.
I am not a CR subscriber. However, memory tells me CR will tell you what criteria they are using to rate a product. If those criteria are not important to you then their rating means nothing to you. Most ratings in other publications use the same discipline. Decide what is important to you befor.e panning a rating

I've heard that the Google Pixel has one of smart phone cameras. Don't know how valid a comment that is.

I remember reading a similar review. I was interested in the Nikkormat as a 2nd body but waited for the Nikkormat EL, which was Nikon's first simi-auto exposure camera. I still use mine when I want apature priority.
