They saved so many lives. Underheavy fire they still camein. To this day the sound comforts me. Heard one today on the beach near Destin,FL. Miles away I can pick up that sound, even with my very diminished hearing. God bless all the chopper crews!!!

The guys in Nam used to say there were a few things you could count on absolutely besides your buddy:
a. the medics
b. the medivac choppers-they often went where the slicks and gunships feared to tread
c. the "Padres" whatever religion or sect to the guys they were mostly "Padre"

Thanks for the great images of that flight. I had a love affair with the Huey when I was in Vietnam. The one in your photos looks like a B model gunship, but it’s been long enough that I really can’t tell the difference between a B and a Charlie model gunship. I’d love to take one for a flight again. I think I remember how.

When fired those are locked on the target and there is no way they can miss. All top secret stuff. Its no wonder they cost so much.

You haven't really taken a ride in a Huey until you get a chance to ride with a General's pilot who got sent to pick you up (they needed the safe combos and I was on outpost duty) without the general aboard and he got to let his "Inner Cowboy" out to play while following about five ridgelines down from a mountain top to the base in the river delta below the mountain.
Thirty feet above the tree tops, hugging the terrain with the throttle redlined all the way. One or two guys looked like Casper and the crew chief was doing some creative cussing all the way down.

I always find it amazing at the things one does NOT think about at the time. What I mean is that I have been on one of things many times (From Ft. Sill to Ft. hood and back) and never gave it a second thought. Here we are, decades later and you managed to show their Majesty beautifully. Why did I not take pictures back then? Good thing we have people like you!

Tom

Thank you fir your kind words...these aircraft are very special to so many different people for many reasons...
