Get yourself a Metrocard for the duration of your stay. There is a great transit system to get you to any area of the city. You can get views also from the ferry system and travel back and forth to Brooklyn and Manhattan.
You will do well to go to Top of World at freedom Tower, Empire state Building or Top of the Rock in Rockefeller Center. There are many rooftop restaurants which give you great views. Take a trip on Staten Island Ferry. Its free. Look back for great views of tip of Manhattan. I could list more but you only have a short time.

years ago when Washington Square Park was safe they had chess boards, black and white squares and found a black man playing a white man and just shot both hands and pieces in black and white. Great contrast.
That park is NOT safe at all now, called needle park.

In planning, I would check to see if places like the Statue of Liberty are open to the public.

Great View of NYC skyline from both the Brooklyn side and also Jersey City. Brooklyn Bridge Park is a good spot, and plenty of places to eat around there. Parking a bit tough. In Jersey City, there's dock's overlooking the Hudson at the Hyatt Regency. Up on the West Side highway, maybe 10-15 mins from NY Stock Exchange is the the Vessel, cool architecture and of course dozens of places in Central Park

Hi,
You can great shots off of the Brooklyn Bridge and also from the Dumbo area. For nice sunset shots of the Statue Of Liberty go to Redhook. There are piers with shops that give good views. Be careful on the trains. I've heard from many people that they are DANGEROUS!!! And I'm a person who rode the subway from when I was 7 years old and through the bad days of the 70's at all hours of the night. Good Luck and have a safe trip.

Manhattan at night from Weehawken is awesome. And to think what you are looking at is just one of the FIVE boroughs.

Ditto. We’ve often stayed in Weehawken and have taken the NY Waterway taxi to NYC during the day but at night have taken shots from the Weehawken side.

I grew up 1 hour away from NY . Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty will not disappoint . Make sure you take in some of the world class museums like the Met and Museum of natural history. There is many, many sights to see.

A wonderful place, that wasn't safe half a century ago when I lived there, and is purported less so now. Tough enough in my '20's not to worry, different than now. Circle Line, Staten Island Ferry, The Met, The Museum of Natural History, Guggenheim. For height, the top of Rockefeller Center (whatever it may be called now) advantage being you can capture the iconic buildings and have more elbow room. There used to be a helicopter tour, then it was gone, maybe it is back. Not cheap, but the photo ops. Liberty Island, apparently there is a combo Ellis Island tour. Museum of the City of New York, the Cloisters, etc., etc. I know a lot of the great restaurants are gone, so I won't go there. Just pay attention, trust your instincts, and don't be afraid to bail out. S/B a great experience!

McSorleys Old Ale House - was there a few times back in the day. Thought it was gone, but apparently not. At one point, Men only. Back then, a kind of grubby novelty. A retired NYPD officer bought it and left it to his daughter when he passed. Dated info, doubt it has changed for the better, but who knows.

Don’t forget good old street photography. NYC is perfect. UBER and taxis are convenient but in mid town slow and expensive. I was there three weeks ago and found subway to work well.
Also, there is a new park on the Hudson, the POD, built on old steamship pier.
