The only difference I'm aware of is the "upgrade" version assumes you already have a legal license for an older version of Elements...

Dave,

From the technical point of view, there is only one version of PSE11. The term "Upgrade" refers to the price. There are two prices -- Full and Upgrade. Both prices will get you the same version. Your status -- no previous ownership or previous ownership -- determines your eligibility. It is Adobe’s way of rewarding one for his/her "loyalty" to this program.

But in the UK at least, you can always find the full program for less than the upgrade! I think Adobe charge much to much for an upgrade.

I just purchased PSE 11. The main reason I did this is because I find it a lot easier on the eyes. As far as I can see (only had it a couple days) it has a bigger work area, the tools are nicely grouped, I can see those "little buttons" that before were a dark color on a darker color. I never did understand why Adobe did that?? I really like the new "Depth of Field" Action, or tool. I like the way that the secondary (I call them) attributes like the Exposure control for the sponge tool is located where it is easy to see, right next to the tool itself. The sliders for these are not as touchy as they are in PSE 8. (what I upgraded from) The guided edit is really much inhanced and very user friedly. Thats all I can say... about that..! (I have no idea why I said all that...?) Just have to I guess. Boone

I have just used Google Chrome and typed in the question, 'Whats new in Photoshop Elements 11. Loads of stuff came up. Lots of uTube clips and other comments, so I suspect a number of people feel they have found new things in Elements 11.

So far I am really thrilled with PSE 11. I can see...what I am doing now. The guided edit is really a well thought out improvement, and will be really easy for a newcommer to Elements. There is a great Portrait feature, and a lot more. Much easier to read is the big thing for me. (not that I'm blind) The application buttons & sliders in the guided edit are really "great". Boone.

Buy the latest version which is 12 so you'll get the latest raw converter. Now that 12 is out the raw converter for 11 will NOT be updated.

Yes, that's true. PSE12 is shipped with ACR 8.2. However, there is nothing to prevent you from manually installing ACR 8.2 in PSE11. It works without any problems. You download the file here:

http://swupdl.adobe.com/updates/oobe/aam20/win/PhotoshopCameraRaw7-7.0/8.2.67/setup.zip

Then, you follow the installation instructions in the link below. The only thing to keep in mind is that these instructions are for the manual installation of ACR 8.1. This means that in ACR 8.2 the name of the file you need to double-click on in Step #3 will be a different one.
