Have been monitoring this rookery nest since construction began in March. Now 5 chicks are making standing room only a precious commodity. Should be fledging soon.

Incredibly sharp image - especially the pine needles. What did you use for a camera & lens? Just curious.

Cool shot! Every once in a while, in Spanish Springs, NV we'll see one standing on the peak of somebody's roof or just flying by. I would have never guessed Great Blue Herons to nest in pine trees! Of course I wouldn't have guessed I'd ever see Turkeys in trees either!

Great shot. I would think five chicks is a bit unusual. Busy parents to feed that bunch.

That shot was taken with a Nikon D850 and the 200-500 f5.6E

Thanks for the reply. Excellent gear. Can I assume you used a tripod since you were using the 200-500 ?

I shoot these GBHs almost every day waiting for them to fledge. I use either the D500, Z6ii, or the D850 depending on how much I want to carry. In this case it was the D850/200-500 combo on a monopod.
