It depends on your goals and how you will use it. First, the upgrade is currently $59 USD for owners of the Nik Collection 3. The main changes are to Silver Efex Pro and Viveza, both of which have a completely redesigned. more modern, and user friendly interface with a consistent look and feel. These are the only two programs with the new interface but its clear they will be the model for the other Nik components. Its just not clear when that will be. If you never upgraded from the Google version then you will see some other upgrades since that version. There is also tighter integration with PhotoShop.

Like any new software there are some bugs that are being addressed. There is a 30-day free trial. Before installing the trial make sure you have your original installation files and any activations codes if you have a paid version. The trial will overlay your current version and you will have to reinstall it if you decide you don't want to purchase Nik Collection 4.

It was worth it to me, but I'm a DXO beta tester and very supportive of all their upgrades. The best way to determine if it's worth it to you is to try it for yourself.

I've been using the NIK plugins for a long time. Personally for me, I don't think the $59 upgrade is worth it. I don't use Silver Efex Pro that much and my current Viveza is working just fine for me at the moment. I'll probably wait until they release an update that encompases the entire suite with earth shattering improvements.

It would have been nice to have the "complete overhaul" introduced by now.

Not much has changed that I use. They call it Nik Collection 4 but only Color Efex has the "4" in its name. Plus, I'm having bug issues with compatibility to Affinity or the Mac M1. Glad I still have almost four weeks to make the decision. The 2012 free version wouldn't install, but it's still available on my Windows computer, if I get desperate

I'd think twice about an upgrade or purchase for ver 4. One main reason is a 25 MB file after working on it will be 245 MB!! This was stated in. a review in "DepReview". Lots of hard drive space needed!! Esp. on a laptop! OUCH!

I have bought/used Nik Collection since DXO purchased it and I have purchased the various updates. They have made some of the apps 4k compatible, however, I'm still waiting for the Output Sharpener to be updated to 4k compatible. I purchase this software from DXO (Nik, Nik2, and Nik3 to support further development of the applications. As for Nik4 to only update two apps - I'm not a money pit, plus when you go to install Nik4 it tells you it will overwrite existing applications. So installing the trail will overwrite what you all ready have and force you to buy the new ver. after 30 days?????

The file size is dependent on file type. For example, if you save a psd file with all layers showing, you can easily be at 245 mb. However, if you flatten the layers and/or save as jpg, it will be much smaller. A 25 mb raw file could end up as small as 9 mb after editing and converting to jpg.

Is this the review? https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/dxo-nik-collection-4-review

I didn't see a reference to file size. Do you have another link?

It's definitely not worth it for me. Updating every program I have every time an update comes along would put me in a one-meal-a-day situation. Most updates are priced a lot lower, which makes it harder to resist.

I will likely pay for the update as DXO PL4 is my main RAW processor these days. My upgrade price is $59.

There are five upcoming webinars you can attend for free. Watch them and then decide. If you buy, you get a discount using a code found at the webinar. Google NIK Collection webinars

In addition to the comments about Photoshop, NIK 4 from Lightroom has some enhancements too called Smart Copy and Paste.

My error but now I cannot remember where I read the review- sorry - The article did not mention anything about saving all the layers or any particular process- so as you mentioned, it would be a lot smaller file if the file was flattened in that case.

Everyone uses software differently, and each person has different expectations. I suggest you try before you buy. I just downloaded my upgrade, but I won't be able to look at it for at least a few days. DXO does a great job with their other software, and though it has been a slow start with NIk, the progress has been steady. I will continue to support their efforts with my purchases.

I would suggest you try it for yourself (free trial).
I am quite pleased with DxO. I will continue to support their efforts, including NIK.
