I recently spent two days photographing birds at Laguna Seca ranch near Edinburg Texas. Disclosure, attractants were used. Meatballs at the rapture blind and bird seed and a bit of suet here and there at the songbird blinds. Also some of the songbird perches were human enhanced. One exception was the drinking Caracara which was taken at a songbird blind where no raptor "lure" was present. When I was hunting I would never consider doing so over or near bait, no corn feeders nothing. The animals subsisted on what mother nature provided. However in this case I went with the adage, no harm, no foul. Most of the raptors played hard to get but the Caracaras arrived en masse. The series contains three birds that in the USA are found only in south Texas, the Green Jay, the Long Billed Thrasher and the Masked Oriole, which in this case is a female without the mask. Also there is a Painted Bunting and a pair of Curved Bill Thrashers.
