The high end line of lens from Tamron, being half the cost with comparable if not better quality and performance, is most certainly giving Nikon a run for the money and a 6 year warranty ..... IMHO!

The Nikon 70-200 2.8 FL lens does go on sale. The last time it went on sale it was about $2100.00. You will have to be patient but the rewards of owning the finest, sharpest, 70-200 2.8 lens in the world will pay dividends every time you shoot it.

I dunno about all that Nikon love. I have a Canon 70-200 f4 and it's always done everything I asked of it. Of course, I don't take pics of shooting stars at midnight which I'm sure that Nikon will do handily seeing as how it's a 2.8 and all. Harry PS Canon makes a 2.8 as well but since I use mine in the afternoon, I didn't think I needed to spend more $$. Call me a cheapskate but he f4 costs more than enough for me. :-)

Took this with my Tamron 70-200 G2 2.8 on my Nikon D810. Very Nice lens as all Tamrons G2 versions. I also have the 15-30 and 24-70.

Excellent Shot!

Has anyone done a comparison between the Tamron 70-200 G2 and the Nikon equivalent ? I think there are 2 versions of the Nikon 70-200 but I am not sure.

Absolutely! Check out the many reviews on-line. The Tamron G2 is just as good overall as the latest Nikon. Performance in different parts of the frame a hair less perhaps, and in other parts of the frame a hair better. Focus breathing at the 200mm end, which may bother some, but not others. Maybe the focus capture rate on a moving subject might be slightly higher in the Nikon. The VC of the G2 is outstanding. You'd never notice any difference in the image quality between the 2 in real world practice. Build quality of the Nikon is outstanding. Tamron comes very close. Heck, I'd get the Tamron 8 days a week, then buy another great Tamron G2, the 24-70mm with the rest of the money.

I am done with third party lenses on Nikon DSLR bodies. Had an 18-270 Tammy that was not as dependable as my Nikon 18-200 DX VR. Had a 150-600 Tammy that gave me acceptable shots maybe 1/3 of the time, that lens used to wander for me for focus lock even under near ideal conditions. And when it would lock, I got way too many soft shots. Got a Tammy 24-70 G2 for my D850, returned it to B&H after around a week of testing; once again had focus lock challenges. For the kind of cash some of those lenses cost, I expect them to deliver right out of the box. That's not to say all Nikon lenses are stellar; my 24-70 f/2.8 is my second version, the original was returned to Adorama.

I am looking to acquire an 70-200 2.8 lens and I was wanting to know if anyone has an experience with the Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC G2 lens. I have the Tamron 35mm 1.4 lens and I am most happy with it. Nikon is out of the question as I can not afford $2800. Lens will be used on a Nikon D810 camera.

Thanks to all who reply .........

The Tamron is an excellent lens for a budget price. I used to use it with my D750 and loved it - got stellar images - some that were published.

I eventually sold my D750 and the Tamron lens as I now shoot with the Z6II and I have the unmatched 70-200 2.8 VR S lens - this lens is second to none but it is over twice the price of the Tamron.

Honestly, for the money you cannot get a better 70-200 2.8 than the Tamron G2 - I would not hesitate for a moment.

P.s. it also comes with a 6 year warranty if your register it with Tamron - this is class leading and Tamron is good about its repairs.

Good luck!
