I just got back from a trip to Morro Bay California and while there I took some shots of the lunar eclipse on the morning of May 26th. I got up a just before 3:00AM and found that a very thick fog had moved in, so I drove up to highway 46 and towards the top of the hills to get out of the overcast (~35miles). Once there I set up the tripod with a small tracker to prevent longer exposures from getting star trails. The tracker could handle my 200mm lens with a 2X teleconverter but not the 500mm F4.0 lens, so most of the images where taken at 400mm and after totality ended I took a few shots with the 500mm with the 2X teleconverter when the exposures were short. Since this was a super moon that just grazed the full shadow of the earth this eclipse was fairly bright and short. All questions, comments and suggestions are welcome. (Double download works well on most of these images).
First shot at 3:55AM (16 minutes before totality starts). ISO 800, 400mm, F5.6, Exposure 1.6 seconds

After 26 minutes after totality was over 4:53AM. ISO 400, 400mm and cropped, F5.6, Exposure 1/125 second

5:23AM the moon was getting lower in the sky and the atmospheric turbulence is apparent. 1000mm, F8.0, Exposure 1/320 second

5:39AM daylight is approaching, the moon is noticeably yellower and about to set behind a distant hill. 1000mm, F8.0, Exposure 1/80 second

Great examples of an event that seemed to be cloudy in many areas, including where I am.

Hi alberio
Thanks for viewing the lunar eclipse images and for the comment. Sorry to hear that it was cloudy there. It was socked in when I got up in Morro Bay and had to head for the hills to get out of the fog to catch the eclipse.
