I agree about Glen Campbell especially after seeing him play the William Tell Overture on the guitar. Roy Clark is another one of my favorites.

Glen Campbell had it all, outstanding guitarist, and superb vocalist. His voice was about as pure a tenor as I've ever heard.

I heard (can't remember the source) somewhere, that had Glen Campbell taken his voice to classical, we'd be talking about "The Four Tenors", and not three. I have no reason to disagree.

Different strokes - but I'll go for Jimi Hendrix, Eddie van Halen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Lee Firkins, Frank Gambale, Marty Friedman, Brett Garsed, T.J. Helmerich, Jason Becker, Greg Howe, Michael Angelo Batio, Al Di Meola, Scott Henderson, Paul Gilbert, Bruce Bouillet, KK Downing, Glen Tipton, Reb Beach, George Lynch, Richie Kotzen, Nuno Bettencourt, Al Pitrelli, Chris Poland, Dave Mustaine, Vinnie Moore, Chris Impelliterri, Shawn Moore, Tony MacAlpine, David Chastain, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers, Steve Morse, Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Les and his bride were definitely ahead of their time - take Nothing away from what they did.
Playing the guitar has continued to move on since then - by light years.
I'd say they were pretty much equals - at the high... (show quote)

And your list is grossly incomplete because you don’t have Jim Hall, Joe Pass, Charlie Christian, Tal Farlow, Mundell Lowe, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessell, Bucky Pizzarelli, Charlie Byrd, Laurindo Almaeda. Joao Gilberto, or the wonderful Freddie Green on it. Not to mention Wes Montgomery

And when you list great jazz guitarists, don't forget Django Reinhardt.

Jimi !!! Since it's Memorial Day, how about "The Star Spangled Banner into Purple Haze". His rendition really gets me going. I was in the Air Force in Thailand when that came out and it's one of my favorites.

Buddy Guy (still with us and playing at his club in The Loop and touring; Hendrix claimed he learned to play from listening to his records); Gary Clarke, Jr. (modern version of Buddy); and the late lamented Terry Kath (Chicago....Hendrix said Kath was better than him).

it was nice seeing Les and Mary having fun with this number...

That's what I liked about this video. I had never seen Mary Ford playing guitar so this was a surprise. While Les Paul was good in his own way he would not make most peoples top guitarists list. He does have his place in history. Just like the way photographers "layer" photos, he was an early practitioner of "layering" music.

I like many styles and many stylists mentioned in above comments. In particular I will mention Barney Kessel and Tony Mottola.

Thanks to all who have commented.
