Spam Danger - Memorial Day

Everyone should be careful about answering phone calls today from numbers you don't recognize. I'm getting calls from a spammer who says she has a short survey about veterans. It says do you think veterans should be honored for the service and sacrifices they have made for our Country. If you think "yes" please press 1, or if you think "no" press 2. I'm sure that there some spam calls set up so that if you do either choice on this so called survey, if you answer by pressing either 1 or 2 key your answer shows up on their end that you have said "yes" or "no" to their question; so just hang up if you get one of these calls or you might have agreed to give someone your car or home, or worse! Remember, they are trying to steal from you, so just "Hang Up", and have a great safe holiday, and give thanks for our veterans.

It's sad, but half the damage is done before you give answers (that don't matter) to random questions. When you pick up the phone, you've just validated to the spammer that your phone number reached an actual person, which is valuable information to them. I pretty much don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the caller's number.

I suppose you don't use an answering machine either.

Oh, I thought it was a warning a about substituting spam in my brats on Memorial Day. Now THAT would be awful.

I just let my home phone system answer.
If they leave a message and I know the person, I'll call them back.
"No MO RO ROBO" is some help.

Mostly I don't when I reject the call. So when my Nigerian prince's lawyer tries to make me a millionaire, I will miss the call. In the meantime, I won't miss telephone conversations with thieves.

I don't have Caller ID on the house phone.
Could be my wife, kids, doctor's office, or friends.
But I can tell in less than 5 seconds if it's a garbage call and simply hang up.

Had one from a "call center" (noise in background), asked if I could hear him (yes, with an accent),
I replied "No.". He stated "The fact that you replied "No" means that you can hear me.".
I said "No shit Sherlock!" and hung up.
Sometimes it's fun.

Sometimes I've done worse. It might be fun to argue whether or not I should be proud of that, but not here. BTW, I don't have a land line anymore, and caller ID is included on cell.

Yea.
Not sure, I think everything that comes in on my cell shows "unknown" if the number is not in my contacts list in the phone. (old cell)

I have a landline, and NoMoRobo works fine. I don't know what the lines are made of. It is free for a landline, and I thought it costs money for a cell phone.

Do you have a VOIP line? (Voice Over Internet Protocol)
I have copper wires that the phone company installed in 1960.
VIOP goes through a powered electronic box instead of just wires connecting your wires to the phone company's wires (what I have).
That's why one has to differentiate copper vs. VOIP for land lines.
Yes, the "numbers" are "land line" numbers, but the interface to the phone company is totally different.

My landline is through Xfinity bundled with my TV cable. How would I know if it's VOIP or not?

Because NoMoRobo works on it. It's VOIP through your Xfinity box through your CABLE.
NoMoRobo does not work on copper from the phone company.
(I've no idea how Xfinity interfaces with the phone company.)

I was going to use it, but cannot.

On their website: "Free protection for all of your VoIP landlines.".
