Many of the fallen trees are a result of a devastating wind storm at the end of January of this year. 15 Giant Sequoias were toppled as were many lesser trees, as you have noted, and the park was closed for a time, as a result.

When we went to Yellowstone a few years ago the amount of deadwood on the ground from the big fire was astounding. And what a waste of money to just leave that timber to rot. And then compare it to the badlands where apparently loggers were allowed to come in and clean up...what a huge difference!
