Great images of the cicada taken at intervals.
Good set. Well done! Went through one of these Cicada emergences many years ago. Spooky, isn't it?!
It is an amazing metamorphosis and you captured the wonder of it!
Wonderful, you captured it all
Great sequence photos of these noisy creatures!
Impressively documented!!
Very nice sequence. There is a very critical move between shots 1 and 2 where the cicada hanging upside down by the tail connections must flip up and grab the old skin with its front legs and detach its tail end and expand its wings. Many die when they miss the grab and fall to the ground. Incidentally, you show the white filaments in the old skin quite well - these are the linings of the main tracheae that carry air into the body; they are part of the cuticle that must be drawn out and shed too, so the new tracheae 'skin' can reach further into the body with growth. Must be like pulling old stiches out after an operation.
Truly enjoyable sequence of a seldom seen event. Job well done and thanks for sharing it with others.
