Reading about the recent San Jose shooting, I’m reminded about the recent numerous shootings across the country.

Is it a coincidence that most of the shootings took place in Democrat controlled cities ?

It might be a coincidence, so don't bet the bank on that. The very definition of a shooting vs a mass shooting vs a multiple shooting has been somewhat conflated. So if you want to nail down the term "most", you have to include all possible shootings into your new math problem.

I think you would be on firm ground with some kind of statement claiming a belief that many are in Democrat controlled cities.

Personally, I think we are seeing a general result of a criminal population who are believing they can now just plain old get away with doing whatever they want due to a perceived turning away from law and order by society.

I agree with you, but I also think that the government that controls the city sets the climate for the criminal population.

Most (2/3) of gun deaths are suicides. Murder rate more relevant statistic for this thread.

So called mass shootings make the media wet their britches but are a very small fraction of murders.

Most of the people that commit mass murder are mental unstable. Did they vote Democrat or Republican? How do we weed out the mentally unstable gun owners that kill people from the mentally stable gun owners that never kill people? Just asking

Dems have been majorities in cities for many years, long before the current troubles. As folks moved out of the cities to the burbs, what was left fell prey to the usual "vote for me and I'll give you (fill in the blank, here)." Those who left for the burbs took their politics with them, and it was by and large, Republican.

Since the cities are still bleeding population (Detroit is the largest example), the citizens who are now migrating to the inner burbs.

A good example is Oakland County, Michigan. For years until around 2016, the county was solid Republican, even with heavily Democrat Pontiac in the mix. Over the past twenty years, the Republican majority became less, until the county finally elected a Democrat County Execuive when Brooks Patterson, the long-time incumbent Republican died, the Dem majority board selected a Democrat to fill out his term, and the County Executive seat flipped. They also elected a Democrat representative, Elissa Slotkin, and flipped a formerly Republican seat. Before Brooks Patterson died, a reporter asked him about the changing politics. He replied "People bring their politics with them".

The out burbs still tend to vote Republican, but not in the bloc necessary to overcome what's been labeled as "black flight" from a still-declining Detroit population.

If you look in the Almanacs, they provide a lot of data relating to cities. One of the statistics they provide is the politics of the mayor. While there are some Republicans, most are Democrats or so-called "Non-partisan". However, most of my research shows those are actually Democrats, if you look at a mayor's history. To be sure, if someone casts a vote, it's hardly "non-partisan".
