My camera was on the tripod and my cat knocked it down. Now it's not taking pictures. I got it to snap twice but nothing now. It won't even focus. I looked up Nikon Authorized repairs online and there appears to be only 18 places in the US, none in Las Vegas.

Is it better to send it to Nikon, or see if a local shop can fix it? I am very sad :-(

Personally I'd send it to Nikon and as for the cat...well nevermind lol.

Thanks. The cat has to stay though, she owns me.

I agree with Pepper, send it to Nikon.
Since you can't expect the cat to understand what you are doing, you'll have to isolate the cat when you are shooting to avoid a similar occurrence.

I was concerned that maybe it was some minor setting thing that got out of whack and that I'm just too much of a novice to figure out. But if I put it on Auto and nothing happens, it just must be broken. I'll fiddle a little more but then I'll just have to send it away.

Ellen, send it away for repair so you will have it back in time for the Holidays.

Do you know what the turnaround time is? The holidays don't mean anything to mean so that's not an issue.

I can't answer that for you. I've never sent anything in for repairs. I am sure someone other than myself will have a reply for you.

Cats are OK - as moving targets.

I'd send it to a Nikon authorized shop. They will probably charge you to examine the camera, and then give you an estimate for the repair costs. I had to send my D800e in, and they estimated two to four weeks (although they also said they could try to expedite it if I really needed the camera back sooner.)

You didn't say what model of Nikon you need to repair. If the repair cost is high enough, you might take this as an opportunity (or excuse) to buy a newer model. Just a thought, but you might find that your cat did you a favor.

Did you try to change the lens? It may be the lens and not the camera.

Send it to Nikon and once you get their price for the repair you will be a better position to decide whether to repair or replace.

Send the cat and camera to Nikon. Maybe Nikon could train the cat not to knock off their Nikon cameras off your tripod. Just kidding.

Kidding aside. I'd send the camera to Nikon for repairs. If you think the price of the repairs are too excessive, if you can afford it, get a new one.
