Yes, downloading an image to my computer is terribly difficult: 1) tap the Photos app to open it, 2) tap the image you want to download, 3) tap the icon that looks like a square with an arrow pointing up out of it, 4) tap the icon that's titled "Sam's iMac" and wait about 5 seconds for it to download [if you don't have an icon titled "Sam's iMac," tap the icon titled "AirDrop" and select the device you want to download to, in my case "Sam's iMac."
That is a LOT of steps. How about, plug it in, go to the file and move it.

That’s right, three steps is a lot faster than four steps ...

TracPhone is a great, relatively inexpensive

I gave my last smart phone, an iPhone back to the company when I retired in 2014. I may have accidentally dropped it on the ground and stomped on it. I hated that thing. I had Android based phones prior to that last one. Anyway, for the past 7yrs I have had an ATT 3G dumb phone, but, ATT 3G service is ending next year. Finally accepted the inevitable and bought an iPhone12 since my wife has an iPhoneX and can give me tips. One problem. There are so many apps that I get a headache just looking through them. I would like some suggestions as far as the ones you find most useful for photography, such as remote camera control of my Canons, etc. I don't use social media so those are of no interest. Wait, I lie! I opened a Facebook page about 10yr ago for a class reunion but I haven't visited it in probably 9yrs. I don't even remember the password to log on.
I am actually starting to enjoy this new phone. Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use the Canon Connect Ap to control my Canon and download images. I also keep a DOF (DOFMaster) and EXIF viewer ap on mine.

You have listed a number of reasons I do not use iPhone. The big one being, IT IS NOT INTUITIVE!!!!! (You did not directly say that, but it is imbedded in what you did say) All this crap about Apple being intuitive drives me crazy!!!! Even people I know who are long time iPhone users say they L O V E it, but then have trouble finding apps, switching between apps, having their screens crack, etc..... And adjusting to iOS changes.... Don't get me started about how they struggle!
And finding out they have lost photos because they did not upgrade their icloud account and they could not figure out how to download the images to their computer because.....well Apple does not want THAT to be easy!!!
I just do not get the iPhone fanboy sickness.

WOW- I must know 20 close friends and family that have had iphones for years, and now most have the 12. No cracked screens, no battery issues, no ios issues, no switching between apps issues (nothing could be easier), no trouble finding apps issues, no losing photo issues, no loading photo issues, no "how they STRUGGLE" issues, "Apple does not want downloading images to be easy"? (there are many EASY ways)-...... I am not a "fanboy". I do my research, and it paid off when I decided on iPhones. You say it is not INTUITIVE. You are a photographer and you want intuitive? Why do you think the good cameras have such extensive menus? It is almost impossible to remember how to use every feature offered. Unless you are a "shoot on auto" kind of guy. I'm sorry if this sets some of you off BUT that kind of response to Apple & iPhones is a bit harsh for my liking.

Group all of your photography apps together and they will be much easier to find. Just move one app on top of another and a group will be formed. You can rename it anytime.

So, now I've found the OTHER guy who can't make "Apple Intuitive" work for him. When I was working in Silicon Valley in the '80's, our office bought ONE original Mac for Sales Reps to type Proposals and important letters on. And for others to do newsletters and other publishing. I was the Old guy laughing stock. I have an iPhone because it is better than an Android, which isn't saying much. But I curse my old Office Neighbor, Stevie Jobs multiple times a day.

Any photos worth keeping are worth processing to completion in LR on my PC. I use the camera to snap Serial numbers placed inconveniently on my appliances so I can buy the right spare parts, and I keep my vaccination card photo there--just in case.

But I do use the maps and the Browser for factoids and a convenient dictionary and encyclopedia for unfamiliar words, places and names. That's really convenient. And texting avoids "telephone tag."

The old guy who cares even less, now, how dumb folks think I am,
C

The Canon Camera app for, among other things, remote triggering is excellent. However, while I paired my old SE phone, I can't seem to pair my new I phone 11 via Bluetooth. I'll keep trying. I also use Camera + as my photo app, but the newer apple native app allows enough flexibility that I'll stick with it.

... On the problem of too many apps to look through, here is a tip. The iPhone has several pages of apps. Just move all the unused apps to the last page and keep the ones you use on the first or second page. Or if you like, just remove it until you need it and reinstall it at a later time if desired.

Yep, and you can put apps into Folders to help with clutter.

To edit the apps if you don't know: Tap on an and app and hold (don't release) until all the apps start to wiggle and each will have a little minus sign on the top. (Use the minus sign to delete them if you want)

Pick an app that you want to be in a Folder and drag it ON TOP of any other app you want, hold and after a pause it will make a folder with the 2 apps in it. You can rename the folder with the on-screen keyboard. Then drag any other apps to that folder.

(Tap on any area besides an app to stop editing apps when done.)

iOS is quirky but fun once you get used to it.

Fewer and fewer. Each battery change by a customer is a loss of income for the company. Either you pay a lot of money to have them replace the battery, or you buy a new phone. Apple started the "unrepairable" process, and other companies are jumping on the bandwagon.

There’s more than phones “jumping on the bandwagon.” There’s electric toothbrushes, (Sonicare has one for $350,) electric shavers, (mine was more than $300,) and Dyson cordless vacuums. (They may be replaceable on the latest models, mine isn’t.)

I don’t understand buying a $1000 phone and NOT putting it inside an Otterbox Defender case.

That's the only case I have ever used for my various high end iPhones plus a tempered glass screen protector, but people who want to enjoy the aesthetics of the iPhone forego the case or use a minimal case. To me, protecting an $1100 instrument from damage is more important than aesthetics.

I have an 11 pro max and will wait until Apple puts more of a telephoto lens on their phone which will probably happen in 2022.

Snapseed is great for editing. To keep up with the latest and greatest for your iPhone, just Google "photography apps."
