I started with photography when I was 12. My dad bought me a practica set from Alden’s catalog. At 14i bought my own camera a Nikon FE. I had it for a long time. Eventually it was stolen from a friends garage. I replaced it with an F2a. Again I had I for a long time. Then came the digital age. D100. D700 the D4. A couple years ago I made a life changing switch to Sony. The A6500. It was good but not great for action (maybe not even good) last week I upgraded to an A7iii. I am bloody blown away (yes I mean that in the Australian vernacular) it is AMAZING! I am now a SONY guy!! We are fostering a4 months old border collie mix all black wa white tie. She gets the zoomies and would be difficult to shoot with my FE. The AF on this camera is simply amazing.

Congratulations! I have the same camera body, and it is an amazing, easy to use machine. I wished you would have loaded your photo so that we could view it in "download" form. That way we could see the focus and your pet's face.

Here on UHH the a7III is dismissed as a dated but still usable basic model. Never was state of the art, and now it’s aging.

But as you’ve discovered, in the real world it kicks real world butt ;-)

What did Rockwell say in his 2018 a7III review introduction?

Ans: Dollar-for-dollar, the Sony A7 III is the world's best full-frame mirrorless camera ever created.

User ID, I don't know where your info came on that camera, but I have one and disagree that it is considered a basic model, and not state of the art. Maybe you should consider that state of the art is a model that let's (helps) a photographer achieve his/her goals. I certainly agree that in the real world, it kicks butt. And isn't that what we are all after?

Paul, you and Ken have it right. I am a huge proponent of the A7III as it does all I want it to do and more!

I also have this camera and it certainly is NOT basic and I’ve read nothing but praise for it on UHH.

To the OP: You will enjoy this camera for a long time. I switched from Nikon as well. I love this camera for its amazing AF.

Who is Rockwell--Wasn't he an artist? Remember the Saturday Evening Post?

I know state of the art is a fluid term. I have never been able to afford “state of the art” I would love to drop $12k on a new bicycle, then $1000 for a new fly rod but in context the A7iii has been a major step up in what I’ve had. As started the AF system is “state of the art” I have read amazing things about it and I’ve experienced a zooming puppy that I wouldn’t have been able to shoot before without an extreme effort and the keeper rate would have been very low. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE NICE COMMENTS!! I wish you all a lovely day!!

I ordered this camera as it was first announced in March 2018. Three years later, I am still in awe. I started out on my father's Rolleicord, but I am not looking back. Congratulations, and enjoy your camera!

That was, Norman Rockwell, that was a great artist. Just type, Ken Rockwell in any search engine to find out who he is.

Thanks, already researched this--guy knows his stuff. The reference(tongue in cheek) to Norman Rockwell plays to most of us on UHH. Most of us are up there in age and would know this guy. Still can see his renderings on the cover of the magazine. Nostalgia--
