Even though one is six years older than the other and seven pixels more, your not going to find a big difference between these two pro bodies...shooting wise.

Those of you who have owned both, what is your feeling? I'm not asking for the all specification differences. . . That is available anywhere and everywhere.

I'm asking for your professional subjective impressions gleaned from living with and working with these two Pro cameras.

Crabs and curmudgeons need not reply.

I have used Nikon Digital cameras since 2001. The D1,D2,D3,D4 and D5 including the H and S models. Since I retired from my job of 41 years as the photographer at Marshall University, I now own the D850. Overall the D5 was the best of the lot. It’s low light capabilities are great as well as its speed in number of shots per second and the auto focus. It had the best camera/flash combination since the F5.
The D850 is a great camera also, outstanding low light performance, good frame rate and the autofocus is on par with the D5. It’s also a great handling camera.
BTW, Marshall University is the NCAA national champion in men’s soccer. They took the title tonight with a 1-nil overtime victory over Indiana University.

Thanks
Those of you who have owned both, what is your fee... (show quote)

I have a D5 and love it. I sold my D3 to purchase the D5. The D3 was an amazing camera and now wish I had NEVER sold it. When I did that I had to purchase another camera (D500) for backup. Then I sold the D500 & a D7100 to purchase a Z6II. Again I wish I had kept the D500. It is also a REALLY nice camera and they are hart to find. Ya cant find a new one any place. So - The D5 is faster than the D3 in FPS but at least my version of the D3 had less ISO noise at the same ISO setting.

Yes, I must be honest, I like the ability to use a lighter camera capable of much the D3 is just not capable of doing no matter how beautiful it is. I guess what I liked about it most was how it stood alone with it's companion D300 and all the industry leading abilities it introduced. Now we are bombarded with competition.
Just my 2 cents, nothing else.
