Renting a camera body...

I actually experienced that in a pro bono wedding for my cousin.
Daytime in a big wedding tent. Reeeally easy work. No rush about printing and assembling two albums at the price of zero $$. Bought the albums cheap from the close-out clearance table. Padded covers, ivory white with gold detailing, the usual schlock.
Kept one album for my portfolio and let the family take whatever they wanted from the other one, after I took it apart and saved the covers and slip-in pages for some other job.
Did I ever mention I got married at city hall ? Oh, I did ? Yeah. Way to go.

Actually my son’s wedding turned out differently. Not only was the pro very accommodating to me (I introduced myself and made a point of staying out of his way), he became friends with my son (who teaches graphic arts and photography) and mentors and corresponds regularly with him now, 4 years later. Worth every $ the brides’s Mother spent according to both her and my son - his presentation of the images (accompanied by music) was superb and taught both me and my son a great deal. I have shot only a dozen or so weddings (too much stress for me), but every time I attend one shot by a pro, I learn a great deal just watching their techniques.

Yes, I am just a fill in/backup...they do have a pro hired..and I'm ok with it..just helping out.
With the approval of the pro? Many pros have a clause in their contracts that they will be the exclusive photographer. Extras cut down on sales of their prints.
Lens Rentals is great, very reliable.
