A Challenge: Water Bouncing on Water

I saw this on "Smarter Every Day" last night. When drops of water fall onto water, they often bounce a bit before blending into the main body of water. Of course, if you manage to photograph the bounce, it will look like the drop is simply falling toward the surface, but it will be a challenge, nonetheless.

Yes, nature is strange.

Surface Tension: "The property of the surface of a liquid that allows it to resist an external force, due to the cohesive nature of its molecules."

Explained...

I love doing water drop photography. Its fun because you never get the same shot twice. This is a 3 drop collision.

You can buy triggers that will capture these images, and there are different mediums you can use other than water to make them more dramatic, that is not what you see here, just a water drop in a terra-cotta bowl. Actually in the Sunday free challenge a water drop enthusiast explains his set up and shows some pics... I never got that far into it, just a flash and some lucky timing on my part. I used to have several of these images many with droplets floating across the surface of the water but have lost them as computer hard drives failed. Anyway, for me it was just a flash and timing, and a lot of missed shots.

That is a gorgeous photo! I've seen water drop photos, but never one with those beautiful colors! Thanks for sharing.

Hope a raindrop onto an outdoor table qualifies.

Looking good man!! add 10 to the size of that first drop, and 15 milliseconds to the delay on the second drop and see if they collide!
