So I shoot with a Sony a77ii. What is the best lens to use for an indoor
graduation with bright stage lights??
Thanks, I will most likely rent.
I have 50mm and a 70-300 mm..which were kit lens from my a350. I know I need new lenses.

I would think the two lenses you have now would handle it. Perhaps a wide angle lens would be handy for large group shots. Good luck.

Thanks!

There are only 18 seniors. What is a fair price to ask for? Group shot, individual with diploma, and a few candidates. I don't have to get them printed. 400$

I will be surprised if you find ANY lenses to rent for the A-mount ! NO new lenses either (worth having) - I think I would want the older Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 - only available used on ebay ....
You may be able to find a new Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 - a great lens - but maybe not long enough ??

How close will you be able to get from your subjects? Given that it's indoors I'd be looking for something with a 2.8 aperture (70-200 maybe). If you can get closer then options open up. Also, it looks like lensrentals.com has a good selection of A-mount lenses still available.

How close will you be sitting? I would think the 70-300 would do nicely. The Sony a77ii ISO's can be pushed quite high.

It belongs how much space you have especially indoors. A 18-55mm maybe a better Choice.

It worries me that you're expecting to do this for pay, yet you're asking very basic questions. A better choice might be to hire a pro with the experience and the equipment. Best of luck.

Are you being paid by the school? $400 seems a lot for what- 2 hours of work? Are you shooting in RAW and editing each one or just giving them the digital copies of individuals and group? If so and no editing, I would say what is your fee per hour- at $50 per hour that's $100 and maybe go to $200 max unless there is more to this.

I too was confused about the $400. As there are only 18 graduates, I am sure everybody is fairly close with each other. As there are no prints, I do not think you should get much more than your cost. That will give you good will in the community.

It all depends. How close will you be to the stage where they'll get diplomas? You'd need a fairly long reach for that. Then for the closer candid shots you'd need something wider.
