After several months, the house next door to me has been sold, and new neighbors have moved in. So, what's the correct procedure for welcoming new people to the neighborhood during Covid? If I go over there, I'll have to wear a mask, and that could be awkward. I'll have a mask, and they won't. Ignoring them would seem rude. Not surprisingly, there are online articles about this situation.

You can take a face covering in your hand and keep a safe distance. If they wear a mask you can put it on and if they don't, they will see that you are prepared. If possible as adedeluca stated, do it from a distance like at the mail box or when doing yard work.

Since you'd be following public health guidelines in a dangerous pandemic, wearing a mask when the immune status of a new acquaintance is unknown should certainly not be construed as awkward. If anything, it should be a sign of genuine thoughtfulness toward the other party.

I usually just wait until I see one or both outside and walk over to introduce myself. I then offer them any help or tools they might need to help in their settling in. Seems to work. You can keep you distance.

One thing I ruled out is home-baked goods. If anything, I'd bring store-bought.
