Obviously photoshopped. Or they're visiting Lilliput maybe.

This isn’t “trolling”, this is requesting in a nice way (note that I said please) that we keep the politics in the attic. Have you got a problem with that? Then take it up with admin.

I get the daily email with all the posts as I'm sure many (most?) do. I scroll through and read whatever piques my interest. I don't pay too much attention to where something sits because that has nothing to do with the content. I respond appropriately to whatever the content happens to be. I can't post in one section now because a couple of times I commented appropriately for the content but not for the location. I don't worry what someone posts. My skin isn't that thin. I have a magic wheel on my trackball that if I roll it I scroll right on down to the next reply and skip whatever I don't want to read. I don't care what others post as it is their right to have whatever opinion they choose to have no matter how wrong it may be. Anyway, I wish there wasn't such thin skin in some areas as I'd like to be able to make appropriate comments to anything without being arbitrarily denied. As a wise person said, stop trying so hard to be offended.

I've got a "collection" of wide angle lenses.....NONE of them do that....

So I went back and looked in greater detail, and I agree that there are some arguments to be made in favor of this being an altered photograph...the biggest being shadows under the Bidens' noses but not under the Carters' noses. But there are pretty strong arguments the other way also...like that all four of them are looking at exactly the same point, and nothing unnatural has been done to make that happen. There is a suspicious lack of shadows almost everywhere there should be shadows, even with well-designed lighting. But the Carters actually look pretty much like people in their mid-nineties look when they get swallowed up in a big easy chair while propped up with pillows. Also...Joe Biden is 2 inches taller than Jimmy Carter was when he was younger. The difference is certainly more than that now.

And I can't argue about how your wide angle lenses work...so I won't. But I have seen much worse effects than this when folks have attempted similar photographs to these with very short lenses. This is clearly a very small room. The big furniture placed away from the wall further compresses the distances available to the photographer. (Notice how the wood frame chair on the right looks much too large compared to the chairs the Carters are siting in.) As for Biden's left jacket sleeve, that's just one more bit of lighting reflecting the difficult room.

My vote is that the photographer did the best he could in a very difficult situation with a very short time to work and lots of constraints. My guess is that although they wanted to be good hosts, getting their picture taken was not very high on the Carters' priority lists. My dad is of a similar age (95), and what other peoplpe want is a lot less important to him now than it might have been in the past.

The reason politics are restricted to The Attic is so the other forum sections do not become what the attic is. It doesn’t have anything to do with thin skin, or being offended, or just scrolling past. It is common sense. It is to keep things running smooth. Many of the different forum sections have rules and/or FAQS that pertain to their particular sections, to keep everyone focused and moving in the direction the section was designed for.
Some stores have signs that say, “No shirt, no shoes no service.” Nobody’s right to go shirtless or shoeless is being denied, they just need to shop at a different store. The rule of no politics outside the Attic does not deny anyone the right to have an opinion, it just restricts political opinions to the Attic.

Well now we are in the attic may as well speak freely and I will say the reason your country is so politically divided is the the dumb arse half of the problem insist on wallowing in their own ignorance refusing to let anyone who might enlighten them speak. Why did this happen for example?

I and much of the rest of the world are laughing our asses off at what you elected for president. You might not see that because media in a lot of the rest of the world is as fake as yours. Sky News Australia is one of the few news outlets that reports honestly on American politics check them out on the youtube channel they surprisingly are still allowed to have :).

Ultra-Wide Angle lens and a small room would be my guess... it does look photoshopped but I think it is a distorted perspective because of the lens used.

I go with the real thing, wide angle distortion. Find a nice lady in a bikini, have her stretch out on the sand wih her feet pointing at your wide angle and move in for a closeup. Your picture will look like a skinny woman 9 foot long with a small head and enormous feet.

[quote=Badgertale]This photo appears to be a little wonky to some...but to me it is an issue with the lens used and the proximity to the subject matter that explains it. How about you?[unquote]

Here is a discussion of this effect at The Online Photographer, a blog by Mike Johnston.
