This has been around the block a few times I'm sure but, can't find the post. So, give me some thoughts on this lens please. Sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 DS OS HMS CONTEMPORARY. This is to go on a Nikon D750..
Thanks for any advise you can give...

You can't go wrong with the Contemporary, but of the copies I looked at back in 2016, the Sport was noticeably better.
This article supports what I discovered as well.

For what it's worth: I've had both the Sigma (G1) and Tamron (G2). The Tamron was a great improvement.
Great for birding, but on a tripod. Too heavy for me to hand-hold.

Sorry it took me so long. The eagle pic was taken 3 weeks ago on a drizzling rain day in hueston woods. The owl was taken 2 years ago across the street from my house. The eagle was a tuff shoot. I was in the woods and a lot of branches in the way. Both taken hand held.

My advise is to buy the Nikon 200-500 5.6 which is better constructed, better engineered, has more quality long lasting internal fittings, has been individualized for your camera, than the Sigma.
PS. You will be happier with the Nikon.

The optical resolution of ALL the 150/200-500/600 lenses are so close as to be imperceptibly different. User techniques, sample variations, and focusing performance have a larger influence on optical performance. Focusing performance can be mitigated by micro-focus-adjusments on most DSLR bodies or with the lens makers adjustment systems.
ALL the large zooms have heavily compromised tripod collars. This is a serious concern if you are using a mechanical support system !
There are some weight and cost differences that can be considerable.
As mentioned, if fast accurate AF is a the highest priority for you - then the consensus is the camera maker's lenses are the best choice.

I'd like to thank everyone that responded to my question on the lens. I am waiting for delivery of a new sigma 150-600mm. Can't wait to check it out. Got a good deal on new(about the same as used).. I'll let you know how I like it in a few weeks. Thanks again!

Shoot with it then customize the is and focus distances if you feel the need. If you need it up it is simple to return to factory specs. Lol. Enjoy!!!! And keep the shutter speed up. Lol

Mine wasn’t real sharp. Sony 100-400 with 1.4 TC is better. The Sport model is supposed to better. IMHO
And both are a heap more money.

Had the Canon version for about six months. Not the sharpest zoom on the market but a good price and postprocessing can help with image quality.

If you can get around the brand bigots, the Tamron 150-600mm is a better lens at the 100-400 range and the 600mm length. This is per many personal reviews. Many have tested the Sigma sport but some say that for the difference in price that the contemporary is the one to go with. I personally do not buy zoom lens from Sigma. I have found that Tamron is superior for zooms just like Sigma produces better primes.
I just took delivery of a Nikkor 200-500 last week to go in my D7200. It is a big brute for an old man like me. I fixed that by putting it on a tripod. I am going to try a monopod and see it that helps. It is by far the sharpest lens I have ever owned. I no longer believe the BS that photographers have been putting out about "it's the photographer not the equipment. IT'S THE GLASS.
My suggestion: Whittle your choices down to two or three then borrow or rent each one and see what works for YOU

I've also had better luck with Tamron sharpness.
