Visiting Santa Fe and Taos in early August.
What photo gear should I take?
I Have a Nikon Z6 with 24-70 and 24-200- as well as a Z50 (DX) with 16-50 and 50-250.
Considering purchasing a 14-30 for the Z6.
Any suggestions as to photo incidentals as well as clothing, protective gear, etc. is greatly appreciated.
I may be available to help carry bags. I would want to drag along my D850 as well. You are headed for beautiful country, my friend.

I live near Santa Fe...so. Hiking shoes/boots, sunscreen, lots of it. A good wide brim hat...at this altitude, the sun is much stronger than at sea level. If you aren't acclimated to this altitude (Santa Fe is at the 7,000-foot level) take it easy if you are doing any hiking.
Water, lots of that too...cell phone, one with GPS...learn how to use the tracking/bread crumbs feature.
Others have suggested, for any hiking in the wild, long pants and long sleeve shirts and I concur. If I think of any others, I'll pass them along.
It gets hot there. Take only one lens. The 24-70 should take care of business. Travel light.

I found in both Santa Fe and Taos I needed very wide and telephoto a lot.
Some things you cannot back up very far or for interiors.
Tele for details and wildlife.
Again both extensively used.
Such a culturally insensitive comment. Absurd! How would you like a stranger coming into your community and jabbing a camera with a 14mm lens in your face? . If they agree and you pay the indigenous Pueblo peoples, then maybe. But do NOT thrust yourself into their private space!
Hi Dave, I am a resident of Santa Fe and have lived in NM since 72. I believe you have the perfect setup with this Nikon Z6 with 24-70 and 24-200- as well as a Z50 (DX) with 16-50 and 50-250. And personally, I would choose one over the other. I have both setups also and choose the Z 50 for the weight. However, both are great.
New Mexicans are used to photographers...pulling off the road to get the shot, etc. No worries...there are some hidden gems if interested let me know.
If you plan on photographing Taos pueblo they charged but well worth the cost.
Bring lots of memory cards because if this is your first trip there you will probably want to photograph everything...early morning is best and of course, sunset hours...the light is different here. (clear)
Have fun! Carol
Rarely mentioned anymore, photography can be socially intrusive.
