Hi Folks
I'm using the A7111 and have three lens. 70-200 f4 G, 24-105 f4, and 24-70 f2.8. I mainly shot general landscape and some family portraits, with this in mind, which lens in your expert opinion would you use in the two shooting situations?
I did consult a well known photographer, and he recommended Sonys 85 f1.8 for portraits and 20 f1.8 G for landscapes
Please any other thoughts

Thanks for your help

You don't shoot landscapes at wide apertures. Any of your three lenses are fine for landscape work where paying extra for f/1.8 aperture is a waste of money. A really sharp lens is great for portraits where the traditional full-frame focal length is 85mm to 135mm. You might experiment with your 70-200 before spending any new money.

If the recommendations came along with a donation, great, otherwise save your money and use your already great equipment.

Your expert might be dyslexic. Buy his recommendations but try the 85mm for landscapes and the 20mm for portraits.

Whatever you do, don’t use the lenses you already have ... way too boring.

According to the OP, he already has that one on hand. What does that solve ?

Do these lenses have filters on them ?
Perhaps you should reconsider. There are many experts with opinions about that.

I shoot most of my landscape stuff on my 24-105. At landscape apertures it's plenty sharp. For chasing kids and family, the 24-105 is great for outdoors. For indoors I'd want something faster. The 85f1.8 is a great choice and I prefer a bit of a telephoto lens. The 55f1.8 is also a great lens that's decently priced (especially used). Many like 35mm indoors and the 35f1.8 is also a great lens. For more of a portrait style, my favorite focal length is 85mm.

For indoor available light portraits and isolating the subject, I think you’ll find that the 85 f1.8 is a very useful (and reasonably priced) lens. It’s smaller, lighter and faster than any of your zooms which cover the same FL. I have the same FL zooms, but often end up choosing the 85 f1.8 instead.

Only you can decide what you want/need.
Some good suggestions above!
I prefer UWA lens for landscape so maybe look at the 16-35f2.8G
If your looking for shallow DOF for portraits 85(1.8/1.4) otherwise I used a 70-200 for years

Don't like redundancy. The 24-105 f4 wide open at 105 will give you the head-shot portraits you want, as well as double for the landscapes you want. (At 5.6 or 8 at 45mm it will work for family portraits.) Sell the 24-70. It is heavy, only 1 stop faster than the 24-105, and just not necessary. If you really think you need the speed and bokeh of a 1.8-85, use the money from the 24-70 sale to get one.

I am in agreement with Paul, use what you have and your 24-70 should come handy for landscapes and portraits.

Do you want to buy a lens?
Portraits...you are fine with the 24-70 f/2.8
Landscapes...if you want to buy a new lens...yes...the 20mm f/1.8 is stellar and a bargain at around $800-$900.
It's also a crackerjack astrophotography lens....where the f/1.8 is intended to be utilized.
You won't need f/1.8 for landscape unless you are hand-holding at sunrise or sunset.
The thing is though...lenses sharp at f/1.8 will be sharper at f/2.8. If you have another lens that starts at f/2.8 ... it will be bested by the lens which started at f/1.8.
