Very true! So many forget that you and the model are partners for the shoot.

So that was a two light setup with fill light to the left positioned about mid torso and she used her left arm to close the shadow on her cheek? Clever!

The fill is still soft but it looks more directional. Was it a smaller light? How did you do that?

Thanks all for the very kind words… rest assured that they are cherished...

As per request...
Lighting: Two vertical strip softboxs with grids high on camera left and right.

Studio: Completely flat black, no illumination other than modeling lamps.

Essential Feature: A floor to ceiling mirror behind camera which the talent used to adjust their pose dynamic to reflect the session’s narrative.

Takeaway Here: It is the talent’s ability to visualize the narrative to underscore its meaning and translate concepts into compelling visual metaphors that is of merit… The photographer simply crafts a production set to reflect his/her visual statement and attempts to capture pivotal moments.

Hope this helps…

Thank you. I understand the concept of Rembrandt lighting, but the mirror would never have occurred to me (and that’s why you’re the professional and I’m not).

Cheers,
Chris
