How did your wings hold you up that long and high? Beautiful shot. Keep up the good work.

A bit of work, but well done. IF I take a good "family picture" single or group, I have many times pulled the person(s) out and dropped them into a beautiful background landscape I have taken, have it printed and given as a gift. WOW is always the feedback. It's fun to do as well.

I've heard them many times. Caught one or two as tiny specs in the sky. Now, how to actually get a nice photo of this exceptional plane? Buy a model of it (diecast), shoot that in a simple background, extract the plane from the background, blend it with a sky image (also shot) and there you have it!

They're more correctly vertical stabilizers (stabs). Other aircraft with a similar tail configuration were the F-14 "Tomcat" and F-15 "Eagle." The Cutlass (first flown around 1950) may have looked cool, but it was badly under-powered and dumped by the Navy after several deadly crashes. However, its younger brother, the F-8 Crusader was much loved by Naval Aviators who flew and fought in it in Vietnam.

I do appreciate your update and info. Stabs it is then. This is also something I can spell.

Since you're interested, the rudder is the movable part of the vertical tail. The horizontal stabilizers have movable elevators on large aircraft, but on fighters today, the whole stab moves to control pitch (nose up or down), as did my beloved F-4 Phantom.

BTW, I assume you know the Navy's Blue Angels fly the F/A-18. Check their schedule for the coming show season. (They'll be in Seattle early August.)

That would be something to see in person. And photograph, of course. (Speaking about the Blue Angels).
