I really miss the focus aids on old manual film lenses

On manuel focus lens, you just turn the lenses barrel until clarity is reached.

Yes but as said earlier the old film lenses that I had had a split ring of some sort that when the splits were lined up that part of the lens was in sharp focus.

Zoom 10x into the details on the mirrorless EVF and you'll never again wistfully yearn for any SLR focus screen ...

Yeah, and don't forget focus peaking which is unavailable on SLRs.

My Nikon D5300 has a diopter adjustment on the viewfinder, so I focus to infinity on a distant object and adjust accordingly. I don’t do this often.

It is recommended that you adjust your Diopter using the viewfinder screen info display, when the lines and numbers are clear you are ready to go. My Lumix diopter adjustment does not lock and I have to adjust every time i use it.

The lens had nothing.
It was the camera focusing screens inside the body that one focused with the various aids that new AF cameras generally lack.

Then why use manual focus?
The camera could have done it better and faster to get the green dot than anyone can manually.

Some lenses don’t do AF.

And those lenses have/had a split image focusing aid in them?

The split image focusing aid was in the viewfinder, not the lens. Otherwise it would show up on the images.

The problem is most UHHers Brag about having the latest whiz bang AF lens then brag they only do manual AF.
Incredibly silly.

I don't understand this part, why people do manual on autofocus lens. Perhaps all new lens are made auto while they can't change their habit. Do they intentionally ignore the green/center dot indicator?

Did you consider that maybe the autofocus isn't always accurate, or it chooses to focus on something that you would choose not to.
