Thanks, Jeff, I am using area focus to catch the birds. Once I am more confident, I will try the eye-focus approach.
Wow! 840mm! Great shooting! Soft, yes a bit, but, try using spot or small center metering to get feather definition and use a smaller focus spot. The focus seems off in some of them.
I am on Hilton Head Island this week and next. I rented a Sony 200-600 G lens and mounted it on my Sony a7C to take advantage of the excellent AF tracking.
The attached set is my first action sequence taken at 840mm (I used a 1.4 tc) at Pickney Island Wildlife Refuge, just next to Hilton Head Island. The set is one highspeed shot sequence. The quick PP was done on my laptop, not my 27" monitor, but I think I hit the right points. All shots are crops.
I would appreciate tips or pointers if you see anything.

Lovely unique sequence Mike of BIF. Looks perfect to me with that rental lens.
These are great, Mike. I could feel the whoosh of air from the wings as it went by. Excellent job on these BIF shots. I would love to get just one and you got a who series!
