This is a gorgeous shot, Bill, and I agree, the software seems to have done an excellent job.

I have to agree, Bill. The 2nd image in the 2nd post is better. Looks like software you might want to stick with. By the way, the first image is really nice.

Thanks Ken - I'm glad it was helpful.

Bill, you have a timely post. Anthony Morganti published his comparison between the two today.

Thanks Mike - I've watched Morganti's video too (and 3-4 others). That was partly why I didn't post a comparison initially. My thinking was that since it's a free trial, anyone could test it on their own images and see how well (or not) it worked for them.

My own experience using the trial version was that starting off with a clean RAW file had some benefit. And for really problematic images, I used both DxO and DeNoise AI, and the files seemed a little better than Dx0 alone.

Although I haven't made up my mind yet, I'm leaning towards buying it. As with most things, YMMV.

Hope all is well.

Thanks Carol - I'm glad you liked it and hope it was helpful.

I'm pretty impressed with how DxO generates clean RAW files that you can then edit.

It all seems to indicate me that AI is taking over editing at a fast pace.

It sure looks that way - once the genie is out of the bottle there's no going back. One of the interesting things about AI is the engineers who are creating these new processes don't understand how the actual AI works, only the process used to create them.

I also compared topaz and PureRaw and reached a different conclusion than Morganti. PureRaw is much easier to use, no messing around with a bumch of sliders, etc. and did a much better job for me, I bought PureRaw. Just my conclusion, (opinion).

I received an email from DxO introducing Pure Raw which uses some of the technology in PhotoLab 4 to "fix problems that affect all RAW files: demosaicing, denoising, moiré, distortion, chromatic aberrations, unwanted vignetting, and a lack of sharpness".

Being curious, I downloaded the free trial, and have been playing around with it for the last week or so on about 30 images. I'm attaching one of the NYC Skyline taken in 2010 on a Nikon D200/24-120 lens as dusk was approaching. I think Pure Raw did a pretty good job and showed noticeable improvement on the RAW files I ran through it - YMMV.

Thanks merry - I appreciate your very nice comments. I've been playing around with a trial version Pure Raw since it was introduced, and think I'm going to end up buying it when the trial expires.
