What is the best, sharpest fixed-focus, non-zoom compact camera ever?

I had an Olympus 35SP camera that took great slides. It had a sort of auto aperture adjuster with a built in light meter with a needle capture to set the aperture. Bought it in 1970 for $80 and sold it some 40+ years later for $110!

An odd question, but an area I find interesting. Regardless of resolution, what is the best compact camera with a non-AF, non-Zoom lens you have seen?

I have had luck with an early 5 MP Kodak (made by Chinon) and a "PaperShoot" with a Largan lens.

Zone focus or fixed focus included.

Thanks!

My first reaction is, "Who cares?"

My second reaction is, "Film or digital?"

Then I ask, "Why fixed focus?"

Next I ask, "Do you mean fixed focal length, or manual focus? There's a conflict between your Post Title and the body of your first comment."

My flip answer is an Instamatic 104.

My current answer would be, "Get a smartphone."

I did use a Canon ELPH Junior APS film camera at one point. It was tiny, and pretty darned good. I won it in a contest at a trade show. It was fixed focal length, but AF with focus lock option.

In the 1970s, the Rollei 35 was a good choice.

Shown with pancake zoom, but sharp primes abound. Cannot escape AF but choose a Zuiko with “MF Clutch” for true vintage manual mechanical helical focus complete with distance and DoF scale.

This is the GM5 with EVF plus the full feature set for its day, IOW it’s a really real camera.

Drawbacks:
Crowded controls. No IBIS. Very small EVF. Hard to find.

FWIW, a GX7 is barely larger, just enuf to contain IBIS, plus a better EVF. Best of all, it’s very much easier to find one. Second best of all, it costs less cuz it’s not so scarce.

What's "tortured death" all about? Is it a pack of cigarettes?

If you mean a compact camera with a fixed lens, I'm running the Fujifilm X100 series up the flagpole...

if you mean a compact camera with any (changeable) prime,
I'm sticking with Fujifilm X-Trans cameras with an XF 35mm

Good luck looking through the viewfinder of X100 I had one for a week before I sold it for a Canon M50, again this is my preference.

O believe my best two image performing small cameras were:
An Iskra II
A later Zenobia
OK, so the Iskra wasn't all that small. Compared to the larger folders I had, it was.
The lens was very sharp, the camera was easy, the pics were great.
The Zenobia was my carry around point and shoot for years. Pocket size.
Probably where my f8 fetish came from. 200 120 film at f8 and a little Sunny16- i got the shot.

The Yashica T4 Super had a Zeiss 35mm f/3.5 Tessar. Really excellent, especially at the price. The Nikon L35Af was no slouch either. The Contax T2/T3 may outshine both of these.

At the risk of someone beating me to it, I'd plump for the Box Brownie.
