DxO Pure RAW

I am considering purchasing DxO Pure RAW to utilize as a standalone plugin in conjunction with Lightroom/Photoshop

Two thoughts come to mind
1: Have you had experience with DxO Pure RAW, and if so, what are your impressions?
2: If you currently subscribe to TOPAZ Sharpen and/or Noise Reduction products, would you purchase Pure Raw?

No. Photoshop handles RAW just fine for me and the Topaz products, as plug-ins, also work fine.

Just a comment. ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) works well with most camera raw conversions, but depending on your camera, you may find that the manufacturer’s raw conversion SW has some advantages. On the negative side, it’s an extra step or two in your workflow.

For example, Canon’s DPP (Digital Photo Professional) has some advantages over ACR (applies the camera’s Image settings to the raw file, implements Canon dual pixel AF, etc), but you have to convert in DPP, Export to PS as a TIFF and then open in PS.

You seem certain but I wonder how much experience you have seeing what PureRaw, which uses DXO's DeepPRIME NR, can do with raw files prior to editing then in PhotoShop.

1: Have you had experience with DxO Pure RAW, and if so, what are your impressions?
Yes, I have downloaded the trial version and at first, it looked like it was over sharping my images. After further research and review, I determined that what I seeing was greater detail in my images. Now I try not to shot at high ISOs so I have not been able to test and see what happens, e.g., maybe less detail shows up. I do have a concern with this software since my workflow consists of LR and photoshop (when need), transiting to PureRaw from LR and back is complicated.

Yes, I own both Topaz products, but DXO PureRaw should only be compared to Topaz DeNoise AI. Each product has its merits, but for DXO PureRaw may be the best product for removing noise and it works faster than Topaz.

Search for webinars for comparisons of noise removal --Adobe, Topaz and DXO pl4 Deep Prime. One of the best I have seen is by Photo Joseph done a few weeks ago:

https://photojoseph.com/tips/2021/4/5/dxo-webinar-noise-reduction-compared-deepprime-v-topaz-v-adobe#.YH2dIehKhPY

Many of my friends use Adobe PS. I do not use it often but have it on my pc. My friends who use PS do not think Adobe's noise reduction is up to par with others available. Most a NIK product or Topaz for noise reduction.

I use DXO PL4 Elite that has Deep Prime noise reduction in it. For my nature images taken at high ISOs like 16,000 or 25600, it does a very good job.

If I were a Adobe user, LR or PS, I would check out DXO Pure Raw to see it helps and fits my workflow.

One more question
I currently have a subscription to Photo Lab 3 which rarely if ever gets used
I have been a Lightroom/Photoshop user for a multitude of years and am comfortable with those products

So here's the question....actually 2
If I upgrade from Photolab 3 to PhotoLab 4 ($69) am I in effect subscribing to Pure Raw which seems to be a part
of Photolab 4

If you open Photolab 4 and JUST UTILIZE the Pure RAW function, can you then send the adjusted image to your desktop and then (with the Pure RAW adjustments) to LR or Photoshop

If so, you are purchasing the Pure Photo app for $20 less

You need DxO pl 4 Elite version to get Deep Prime. The essential edition does not have it. If you have elite edition in pl4, you process the raw image in pl4 and export it as a tiff. During export, deep prime is applied. I do not think the resulting processed raw image in DxO pl4 shows the results of deep prime, but DXO support will have to confirm this.

I'm a beta tester for DXO Photolab. I'm including this quick overview of PureRAW and it's relationship to Photolab 4 Elite. As you pointed out, an update to Photolab 4 Elite is required for the DeepPRIME feature. You are also correct that the results of DeepPRIME on the entire image can be viewed only after export.

PureRAW is a completely automatic program which includes DXO's world class demosaicing, lens distortion corrections, lens sharpening, chromatic aberration corrections, vignetting corrections, and the application of DeepPRIME, the best noise reduction for raw files currently available. It allows you to create DNG files for use in other software that can read that file format.

The functionality in PureRAW can also be completely achieved In Photolab 4 Elite. Because of the intense processing required for DeepPRIME, the results in Photolab can only be viewed at 100% one section of the image at a time in a smaller browser window during editing. You can see the effects of DeepPRIME applied to the entire image only after export.

PhotoLab 4 Elite includes the same PureRAW features as part of this more full featured raw file editor but with the added ability to be able to fine-tune those settings. A new PhotoLab export feature allows you to create a DNG file with the same features as PureRAW.

Be aware that exporting images using DeepPRIME, whether from PureRAW or PhotoLab 4 is extremely processor intensive.and can take quite a while to export just using a computer's CPU. Happily, processing can be speeded up very significantly, usually by 3 times or more, if your computer has a graphics card with a GPU supported by DeepPRIME. My computer has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 ti which is probably the lowest level Nvidia card which will allow acceleration of DeepPRIME processing
