Words from a Grumpy Old Man
I represent those two, Harry.
And 'back then' a phone number had fewer digits, perhaps only 2. Now one must 'dial' at least 10 to make a call.

When I was a kid phone numbers were only 4 digits so they were easy to remember. My father’s hardware store phone was 0105. He bought the store from an old guy. We found some letterhead in the office. ‘Way back, the hardware store phone number was 2. At least he had someone to talk to.
Actually when I was a kid we didn’t have to remember the phone numbers. We’d just pick up the phone and ask for the hardware store. Back in those days we had voice-activated phones.
