Hello everyone! I am new to this site and request some input for some site locations. I'm traveling to Michigan in June and need some input for some easily accessible lights. Specifically I need locations I can view from the north side to have the lighthouse in the foreground looking south with the milky way rising behind it from about 160-200 degrees as the night progresses. Thanks in advance for any help.

Google "Michigan Lighthouses" and you will get a list of all of them. From the vantage point that you are interested in, there are many along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, especially from Ludington south. Lake Huron has several as well, the Tawas Light being very picturesque. The most spectacular scenery is along the southern shore of Lake Superior but if you are interested in viewing from north to south, this may not work as well for your preference.

A lot depends on which side of the state you will be travelling on. Also if you want to shoot lighthouses that’s one thing but if the Milky Way you want to be away from the city lights..... consequently farther north. The same for northern lights.

One issue with shooting south, is the amount of light pollution, in your shot. Darker sky can be found over the lakes or over land to the north. The south shore of Lake Superior, offers dark sky to the south, but must be on a boat.

Pointe Bestie I think would fill the bill its is a fairly dark area. With a little work you can work your way to the north side in order to shoot south. Here's a couple shots looking due south.

On the east side of the state in the summer a lot of the light houses are only open on weekends. They have several books on Michigan Lighthouses, check for the books on line.
They are a great shoot, I did some shoots for several lighthouses and was allowed in by myself and had full access. One had its lens being removed by the Cost Gard and was let in to shoot it before it was removed.
Some are privet owned so I don't know any way but to just go and shoot from the outside.
The Seven Ponds Photo Club was talking about setting up a tour of them, don't know the outcome.

In the NE LP, Sturgeon Point (Alcona County) and the New and Old Presque Isle Lighthouses might offer good photographs...

Good Luck - Strix.
