I got a new remote for Roku, but I can't get it working. It came without instructions, and from what I see online, I'm supposed to push a button in or near the battery compartment. This one doesn't have a button. Any ideas?
I have an old remote that does work, so I'm not stranded.

Take the battery cover off and look for a very small button on the lower right (below the batteries).
The button you're looking for could also be under a tiny hole inside the battery compartment. Press a bent paper clip through the hole to activate the button.

My old remote has the button, but not the new one.
I just found this online. Unfortunately, it does not work. I unplugged everything, plugged it in again - no good.
"If you do not see a pairing button, you have a standard IR (infrared) remote that does not need to be paired to your Roku device. With a standard IR remote, you simply insert new batteries and point the remote directly at your Roku device when pressing buttons."

So is your ROKU device an infrared or Bluetooth interface? Does it have an IR “window”? Two of mine are Bluetooth and just plug into USB ports on the back of the TV and look like a thumb drive. The other two, which are IR look like a pack of cigarettes and attach to the TV via a USB cable. If you go into the setup menu, and do a complete system reset, it should look for the remote. BTW, when pairing, the batteries must be absolutely fresh (new) - at least that has been mine (and others) experience.
Roku has voice control. If it has a microphone icon, hold and talk.

The remote is IR. I'll play around with it later.

Yes, but I doubt it would work right for me.

Could it be that it’s an IR remote, but a Bluetooth receiver? The main setup menu should tell as well as the physical size of the receiver.
I absolutely hate Roku!
It has the most convoluted, antiquated menu system
imaginable.
