I retired from Cameta Camera a few months before they closed up shop (I managed their used equipment division for about 17 years) - I feel that was a definite loss to the photo retail world but the owner wanted to retire, and try as he might, he wasn't able to find a suitable buyer to keep the business in operation. If you like dealing with Cameta - try out CameraLand in Bethpage, NY (https://cameralandny.com/) - long term Cameta senior associate Steve Sandick recently joined their team. He is a 100% honest guy and highly knowledgeable.

I have never been to CameraLand. I guess because it is in Bethpage and I live in Brooklyn. I guess I’ll have to convince the wife I am suffering from a GAS Attack. If you highly recommend Mr. Sandick I’ll be on the lookout for him.

I do see the difference. But I would distinguish "bait-and-switch" (of which I frankly see little on the current Abe's website) from attempting to upsell after the purchase, which like the "Do you want fries with that?" at McDonalds or the "Can I get you another glass of wine? at a restaurant may be distasteful but is pretty ubiquitous in today's market. You can always "Just Say No!"

I know nothing of Abe's but am really enjoying reading your kind and intelligent manner of responding to these posts

Let's remember I originally said I'd only recommend this today if I came across a good deal on something I was looking for on Amazon, and Abe's was listed as the seller.

I did buy a Tamron super zoom lens from Abe's through Amazon in 2012, steeply discounted, no warranty (which on Tamron lenses is 6 years in the US), no problems at all with the sale or the lens. I frankly don't remember any upsell attempts. This year I sold it to MPB for about half what I paid for it, so I'm happy with the overall transaction.

I’ve known Steve for around 18 years - 17 while we were colleagues at Cameta. He had a large following there and was held in high regard for being honest in his recommendations on equipment.

NO, NO,NO, dont buy from Abe's they are the worst at selling grey-market and non-new stuff, and stuff with missing items. Stay away at all costs, just dont be sucked in by their prices. In the end you will be sorry if you buy from them. Stick with B&H, Adorama, Amazon or any trusted local dealers.

Many are of the opion that one should not buy anything from ABES, and with good reason.
But I would say it's OK to buy from them as long as you know what you are getting or not getting.
What you are getting is a camera or lens which, if something goes wrong, will not be repaired by the by the manufacturer here in the USA. What you are not getting is the One-Year Warranty.

I have purchased a Sony a6000, saving 15% but without warranty. I took the risk. Been lucky so far.

I would NOT trust the warranty they sell.

with abes by the time you buy back all the stuff you were suppose to get in the box I'm sure your equal to a USA model
I buy from BH and never an issue. Years ago had minor issue with Adorama with a purchase and got a total run around from them so I'll never use them again. It was a minor, easily fixed thing, and the run around cost them any future business.
