My Commodore 64 solved this easily:
P(Y−X=m|Y>X)=∑kP(Y−X=m,X=k|Y>X)=∑kP(Y−X=m|X=k,Y>X)P(X=k|Y>X)=∑kP(Y−k=m|Y>k)P(X=k|Y>X) will give you the answer.
How long did it take to solve that on your Commod'e 64?

You can't state definitely that the answer is not 6. It could very well be 6 (or any of the other suggestions), depending on what logic you use.

The answer will come in a few days, after y'all have had a chance to think about it.
The answer would be: R

My thought was 8, even though I had driven my Mazda 3 with that shift pattern about 3 hours ago, and I'm a car guy.
