I'm looking to print out a B&W photo as a housewarming gift, my daughter-in-law picked one of mine out.
She wants a large print, as the house has lots of wall space. Prices are all over the place with National Photo Lab being reasonable, then Artmill being expensive and Whitewall being $$$$.
I'm looking for about 30X40" with a 1/2" gatorboard backing. All recommendations welcome and then I'll check them out. How about Adorama photo?
Thanks....Bruce
Do you want a print made on fine art paper and printed with ink, or a C-type print, printed on thin paper, with limited paper type selections. My experience is that B&W ink prints made on Hahnemühle Baryta paper, (or Epson, Moab, Harman, Canson, etc) can provide excellent prints with great detail, depth, and tonal range that are far superior to the cheap wet-process photo prints. I used to use Ilford Gold Fiber Silk photo paper (not for inkjet) as a cheaper alternative, processed with a LightJet laser (Whitewall). It is pretty decent but not quite in the same league as the others.
