This is a patently false statement. Here's what Amazon actually says:

The A-to-z Guarantee protects you when you buy items sold and fulfilled by a third-party seller. It covers both the timely delivery and condition of your items. If you're not happy with either, you can make a claim. Our team will decide if you're eligible for a refund.

Hello!!! Read the fine print: " You can make a claim. Our team will decide if you are eligible for a refund." There is absolutely no guarantee of a refund. Stick with trusted sellers or things sold directly by Amazon where you are fully protected. Why put yourself at risk???

You sound like either an Abe's employee. There is NO OTHER WAY you would support that seller!

No, I've just saved -- over the past few years -- about $900 dealing with Abe's. But I've also bought from B&H, Adorama and Amazon directly, when it made better sense to do so. If you're savvy and know what you're doing, you can get a good deal at Abe's. So for me it's been worth it, even if they left Maine many years ago.

If you think Amazon is not pro-consumer to the max you haven't ever dealt with them as a seller. I have, and I know that they resolve any doubt in favor of the buyer.

And that's been my experience too when I've made an A-t-Z claim as a buyer.

So as far as I'm concerned there is just not enough real risk buying from a third party on the Amazon platform if you get a good enough deal on a particular item.

Contrary opinion here. Maybe they are to be avoided, but I bought my D850 from them 2 years ago. Price was fair (not cheap) and I encountered no issues.

Check their reputation through reliable rating sites - then compare to reviews for known reliable businesses - you can trust B&H Photo, Adorama, Henry’s, Robert’s - and many others. If you are talking about new cameras and lenses you will find that all of the reputable dealers have the same pricing - those prices are set by the manufacturers - a business listing the same item at a lower price should raise a very big red flag.

Everything I've heard is no. The they deal in a ton of grey market items. European models, refurbs with no warranty - that sort of thing.

"All of the reputable dealers have the same pricing - those prices are set by the manufacturers - a business listing the same item at a lower price should raise a very big red flag." So some believe. Not me.

As far as I'm concerned, the red flag is this -- these low-price dealers have decided not to accede to the manufacturers' price-fixing schemes to gouge US consumers. So they buy and sell the identical product (albeit with a different warranty) which has been sourced from a foreign supplier at a competitive price and pass the savings onto the buyer. As long as you know what you're doing, you might as well reap the benefit.

PS A European or Asian model of a camera might have 20+ languages to select from on initial setup, but English will always be there.
