Is Abe's of Maine a trusted supplier? Prices are pretty good.

Oh, you want a battery with that camera?
That'll be extra.

Don't walk away from Abe's. You should RUN away from Abe's! On a scale of 1-10, they are a MINUS 10.

Absolutely stay away. Not Abe’s and not in Maine anymore, and not to be trusted.

When the plastic mount on my Nikon 18-105 broke...I was wanting a refurb 18-140 in a hurry. Only one I found was at Adorama and would have taken a week to receive. Went to Amazon where Abe's had a new gray market 18-140 for about the same price. Really didn't want to deal with Abe's but was needing the lens that weekend. I figured with Amazon's 30 day return policy and 2 day shipping I placed the order. Worked out great for me. Probably wouldn't deal with them with a more expensive item.

Roberts Camera/Used Photo Pro is also very trustworthy.

No, not now, not ever, never!

They are securely at the top of the list of dealers to avoid.

I recently posted a “for sale” lens here on UHH at what I thought was a reasonable price. A troll shows up and pronounced that the same lens was available new for only a few bucks more than my asking price. I replied to his/her assertion with a “if so, where?” The answer was Abe’s of Maine and I knew I might as well pull the ad. Abe’s is poison. Sure, there will be a few that get a “good” deal but more will be a victim of bait and switch or end up with grey market and no manufacturer warranty support. Do yourself a favor, just move on and not with Abe’s. Simple as that.

Please, stay away from Abe's. B&H and Adorama are honest and have prices that will not change when you order and include things that Abe's wants extra for, like a camera warranty, accessories, etc. etc. etc.

Yep, and the “warranty” they sell you is 3rd party, so you have no idea as to the quality of the work, and if it’s a Nikon, they won’t even be able to buy OEM parts from Nikon. Then when you give up on all that, you still won’t be able to get it fixed from Nikon service.

Not sure about Sony, but both Canon and Nikon control the prices from their dealers, so the only way you’re going to get a price break on a new camera is either if it’s on a mfg authorized sale, reconditioned/open box or grey market (and hopefully, the OP knows the potential pitfalls of that).

Absolutely not!
B&H, Adorama, and Roberts (Indianapolis) are a much better choice, and excellent to do business with.

I would point out that Abe's [no longer] of Maine also sells on the Amazon platform. If you buy there you have the not insignificant benefit of Amazon's service and quality guaranty. So it may be worth it, if the product/price you want can be found on Amazon.

NO! Nothing is worth buying from Abe's of Maine (really Brooklyn, NY) - it's all scam, all the time.

Good deals abound at Abe's of Maine - but only for the owner of Abe's of Maine. The consumer always gets the shaft.

And they have the art of the repack down pat. You will never know who's hands that new camera you just received from them came from. Often it will be from a customer return, but dishonestly represented as new, and not open box as it should.
