I want to deeply thank everybody who took the time to respond to my question on a good printer. I have researched the suggestions & leaned on the Epson XP-15000; but it’s out of stock in most stores; where it is available the price is much higher. So I have back ordered & will wait.

Thank you again for your suggestions.

When you receive it check out Precision Color for refill ink. Great outfit and even provides icc profiles.

I absolutely double up on what you said.
Unfortunately, the price deals appear to be gone on the Pro 100. It's been replaced by a new version that appears not to have any promotions at this point in time. Not sure if Precision Colors will have inks and resets available.

It's an ABSOLUTE waste of time and money to purchase a decent photo printer and then cheap out on ink purchases by straying from manufacturers ink. Save your money and send your images out to be printed. Your savings on purchasing the printer and the ink will pay for a ton of purchased prints. Best of luck.

Printers are a range that covers the gamut in price and quality. On the quality OK, good, best and great are all in the mind of the individual. I have success with both Epson and Canon and found they seemed to be the best for pictures. The Epson I used is no longer in production and the Canon I use is the Pro 1000 now but the Canon 100 and 200 my friends seemed happy with. I look at the printer as the machine that produces my combination of all my (costly) equipment and work to show the world.

Pixma Pro 100 has worked well for me. Up to 13x19 as well. Gets sporadic use and so far has not had a problem with the print heads. Inks are not cheap. Prints are attractive and have held up well posted in places where the sun shines on them through the windows. There used to be occasional deep discounts. There are probably newer models, haven't kept track since mine works.

Mirrors my own experience with the Pixma Pro 100.

Gave up on Epson printers since I am a casual user and their heads keep clogging. I was going to buy a Canon Pro 100 when Canon was discounting them last year but missed the boat. They have been replaced by the Pro 200 which I am waiting for discounts on to purchase. The 300 is also a great printer

Canon is doing a lot of seminars online with various camera stores like Samy's in Southern California. Good way to see what they have.

My experience certainly is contrary to your bombast.
As to sending out for printing, it would absolutely be a waste of time and money if you're after exploring creative options. We agree to disagree.

I agree with "cjc2" You buy only the best equipment and study how to process the most expensive software, buy the best printer. All of this for a picture of your work, great. The picture is your "Show Case" but, buy off bland ink to save money?. The ink refiners don't have a Canon red and an Epson red etc. The printer manufactures have the software that you set for exactly the colors (as they make them), but it's close enough to show your end product. Save money but don't talk great you have compromised your work.

Pixma Pro-100 isn't built anymore. I had one and only ran maybe 100 photos through it before it broke. Just quit working for no reason. The power supply went out. I got it on sale with a big money off coupon. Final cost was about $75. They were selling for around $275 to $300 in 2017. I found a $200 off coupon. You can still find them but they are crazy expensive. I think the last one I found was around $800. edit- make that $875

I need a new printer as the OP described. I'll be watching this space with interest. Based on my experience with Canon Pro-100, it was a great printer until the power supply quit. Now it would make a good boat anchor. I won't be buying another Canon.

I second this recommendation. For 13 X 19 prints I previously used a Canon Pro 100 but it developed problems and I bought an Epson Expression 15000 and find it to be superior to the Canon (as it was before the problems). I use it only for landscape prints and the image quality has been outstanding.

[quote=jlsphoto]Using a Canon Pro-100 for a number of years now. The prints are bright and brilliant. Like any printer to get the best results you must use printer profiles when printing.

I have a Pro-100 and it's a damn nice printer. I've never used profiles and the prints are startling, really nice. I'm a sporadic printer and so far that's not been a problem. Run a cleaning cycle and print something on typing paper and I'm good to go after a layoff. Harry

I have had a Canon PRO 100 for 3 years now. Occasional use and never had a problem with the print head always working. I am completely satisfied with it. To bad that Canon stopped production. Maybe you could get a used one on eBay.

I have the Pro 100 also. Tried the Epsons, could never keep one right. My 100 is used sporadically with no head problems. Gorgeous 13x19 prints. If you're like me (too dumb and lazy to use profiles) this is the printer for you.
Canon software does the job; as I said, gorgeous prints! Harry

I'm fairly sure your experience is limited. No, I don't agree to disagree, I disagree completely! Go back to where you came and comment after you get some experience! Best of luck.

Judge not least you be judged. Believe what you want. I personally have 30 years experience which says it is possible to use 3rd party ink and have "can't tell the difference" results if you are diligent in selecting your suppliers. However, I don't sell my work so I'm not compelled to fly the "OEM" only banner just to provide confidence to others. I've saved enough money over the years to pay for several printers.

I must ask how you know your printer is at EOL. Did parts break, did it stop working or did you get a "Service Needed" massage. In case of the latter you might just need to clean/replace the waste ink maintenance tank and reset the printer. I've done that a few times on Epson printers. I Googled how to disassemble the printer to clean the tank then downloaded a key code to reset the printer. After a couple hours work my printer was back working just like normal. I figured I had nothing to lose.
