The Boat Tailed Grackles are preparing to nest. Usually, there are several nesting in trees in my yard, and when spring storms pass through a young grackle will sometimes fall from a nest. Naturally, this upsets the parents, but surprisingly it seems to upset all of the nearby adult grackles. When I go outside under these circumstances, several adults will follow me around the yard while squawking at me. They don't attack they just fuss and follow me. If the chick remains on the ground, the adults will continue to feed the chick. If the chick is old enough, the parents are successful in raising the chick. At any rate, spring is here and the grackles are preparing.
Nice shots, super sharp. Thanks.
Not the loveliest birds but these are fine images of them.
👍
For some reason, the Houston area Grackles (I was a regular visitor to Oil Town throughout the 90’s and 00’s) always reminded me of an English Crow on a Hollywood diet, sporting a $100 shave.
This is a photogenic pair and reminds me I need to photograph the Cheesehead Grackles visiting my yard.
Well Done!
These are excellent. So sharp and clear!
Got to love the grackles and their sounds. Very entertaining, and your pics are terrific.
Thanks for all the kind comments.
