I worked at the UA warehouse on LI. The machine would produce 400+ lbs./day, not counting the wastage - which was about 50 lbs. I couldn't stand the smell of popcorn for several years afterwards!
I'd think I'd consider taking that one kernel back to the store for a refund ! { or at least a replacement } I myself, was thinkin' about eating a whole bag of those un-popped kernels just before I die, to make my cremation a tad more exciting !
I'm sure there are many different kinds of snack food, I haven't tried. I am glad that popcorn isn't one of them. I grew up on an Iowa farm and in the spring we would plant a few hills of popping corn, that we would harvest in the fall, twist the shucks together and hang in the crib to dry. Then in the cold days of winter, we'd hand shell the corn and pop it in an old kettle on top of the stove. My wife and I still have it several times a month. We now toss in some "M's" to enjoy with it"

I was the same way when I worked in the concession stand at the theater
